Really? Was there over an occasion when you'd say he was the best in his division?

There was a time he could destroy a buffet faster than Tubbs, ruin a case of Johnny Walker quicker than Cooney and lap Tucker around an 8ball of the finest Bolivian Blue Flake.

That, sir, qualifies as the best in the division.

For me a champion is whoever is regarded as the best in the division, I don't think dokes was ever classed as better than spinks nor tyson

PP, you post that"I don't see anything on film from Dempsey, that makes me think that he's that quick and his punches are wide". Of course you don't as you have a closed mind about Jack Dempsey and nothing good about Dempsey leaves your post. I ask you to take a slug of whiskey,
whilst watching the Demposey/Firpo bout in which Demposey, in close frees his left hand and shoots 5-6 left hook-uppercuts so fast and and punishing
absent punching room that almost takes Firpo off his feet.Watch that and tell me you aren;t impressed ? And in the 2nd round Dempsey shoots a one-two in close that FLATTENS the lumbering ,but ox-like Firpo. Dempsey
it was said needed 6 inches punching room for him to kayo opponents.Take
another shot of liquor and watch the slow 32 year old Dempsey, who's legs are shot, but in the 7th round Dempsey unloads,a series of punches on Tunney so FAST and ACCURATE.right on the button, that even in slow motion, the blows appear fast...And not one WIDE blow on Tunney's chin.
I won't go into the question of who "punched faster than Dempsey, because it is meaningless. It is the speed and POWER of the punches that count and in this regard I rate Dempsey, Louis, and the young Mike Tyson
As the top three heavyweight punchers. Cheers....

Check this out from the 4:10 mark to the 4:20 mark Patterson throws and lands....well I'd have to slow it down but I'm guessing about 20 punches in 10 seconds - I think that's the fastest spurt I've seen - I remember the first time I saw it years ago I genuinely thought something was wrong with the speed of the film or my video recorder was about to chew my tape up or something LOL its crazy speed that

    I would say for definite:
    Ali
    Patterson
    Tyson
    Jones
    Holyfield

I would say there are even more but its pointless going on.

I am sure that clip has been doctored, my copy of this fight always seems a little slower.

Patterson has a really underrated mix of power and speed, dare I say equal to that of dempsey himself?

Yes you dare say! But I dare say Dempsey was much stronger, rugged, and
had a great set of whiskers, and was the best body puncher amongst the heavyweights.Dare I say ,L ?
