Style wise Crouchers who can press inside like godoy and boxers like conn...Tunney may have been one of the two to ever defeat Louis IMO...but he may lose a rematch or two to Louis...Louis was beatable once...but two it of three I think may have been impossible save Dempsey whom arcel and Sharkey who thought was a little better from.radio interviews on the wfan..I tend to agree for what its worth with the great arcel and the confident but respectful Sharkey....thanks

LOL @ Louis beating Holyfield, Lewis, Wlad, or Vitali. They'd be too big and strong for him.

Lewis, Wlad, and Vitali would have outweighed Louis by about 20-30 pounds, and would have a significant reach advantage.

That doesn't mean they automatically win

Joe Louis is up there with Lomachenko and Mayweather for being the most accurate puncher.
And he was a power puncher.

The man was fundamentally sound. He fought, and destroyed, a few giants in his day as well.

Some guys who might be worth thinking about (Stylistically).

Jack Johnson - Fighting with Smaller gloves and more liberal clinch rules, Jack would grab the inside of Joe's biceps so that his pinpoint KO combination punching is not as effective. Concentrating on defence all the time, and smothering and wearing down Joe Louis, this sort of style, despite the lower work rate and squarer stances, might just be worth a go. See how JOe reacts to the Jack johnson. Let us not forget Jack supposedly spotting his weakness for Shmelling. I think this would be a great fight.

Joe Frazier - I could have chose Marciano, but everyone is talking of that one. Why not give an all time great left hooker the opportunity to crowd a prime version of Joe Louis. He showed against Ali that the class factor wont phase him and neither will his heart. If Joe can crowd and land that Hook regularly enough, he might just have the speed power and desire to list the popular no 1 and no 2 on his resume.

Ken Norton - When he fought Ali his tactic was to fire a jab back every time ali through a punch. It might be interesting to see whether such a tactic might work against Louis. It doesnt sound to dissimilar to what Schmelling did. So long as Norton doesnt get blown out early it could be a really close fight.

Wlad Klitchsko - Stylistically, Wlad is probably the best bet. Hit long and hard at range and grab desperately whenever Joe gets too close. When coupled with the size advantage, i think this is probably the best style to use against Joe Louis. I think Wlad doesnt have the chin to pull him off, but he does have the size and strength and an excellent chance if he lasts the distance. Stylistically, this is probably the best way to fight Joe louis.

Charley Rose said Johnson would have smothered Louis' jabs,I don't know, but it would have been an intruiging fight.
Eddie Futch spotted that when Ali jabbed his right hand was not in the proper position to defend against the return, he held it away from his body,so he instructed Norton to jab immediately Ali did.
Norton's guard would be in the proper place to deflect/block Ali's jab, but Ali would take Norton's left in his face. Schmeling knew he would have to take Louis' jab and was prepared for the area around is eye to be damaged which it was, he was waiting to cross his right over Louis' left because Joe did not return it to the defensive position after jabbing.
This is what he meant when he said after wacthing Joe fight," I zee something but I won't tell".Johnson had spotted the flaw too.

I think Wlad would panic when Louis started to unload combinations inside. Carnera tried to tie up Joe but found him very strong inside. Wlad 's rectum falls out when he is under pressure.

I'm usually against putting Tyson as a favorite against ATG's because of his resume.....

but I would say Tyson. Do you guys thing Louis would be more mobile if he were fighting Tyson or would he just stand in front of him?

Louis didn't like fighters who crowded him and often got in trouble with left hooks. Tyson would have been a very tough proposition as would Frazier.

Louis wouldn't be able to do anything. Wlad would knock him out with one punch.

Wlad is stronger than Carnera, and much more skilled.
