My go to guy for HW body attacking Norton. I thought he worked the body exquisitely so such a big guy.

Does anyone in HW history have a better body attack?

Norton was an excellent body puncher, but I would also mention:
    Dempsey
    Louis
    Frazier
    Tyson

I like Joe Frazier for the way he used his body attack to make his opponents drop their guard so he could land his left hook. I also like Evander Holyfield and the way he mixed in body shots in his flurries.

All great choices I would also mention Morrison and Chuvalo maybe had the best IMHO he stopped alot of fighters on the strength of a good body attack

It's the old timers. Smaller gloves, so Jeffries, Fitzsimmons, Johnson, Burns. Those guys were body-*******s.

    Jeffries
    Dempsey
    Marciano
    Tyson
    Frazier ( though limited )
    Holyfield

Just a side comment, working the body is freakin hard.. Probably the hardest thing I've ever found to do when sparring. and it also leaves you momentarily vulnerable.

This really belongs in the training section, but it does not necessarily leave you more vunerable than targeting the head.

There are times to go upstairs or downstairs depending on the opponent's guard, the distance between you and him, position in the ring ( Ropes or corner ) and your own style.

It's a definite "oh-sh*t" moment when you commit to the body.

Tommy Morrison or Tyson at number one.

This isn't exactly true,it depends on style and sometimes even body type,a shorter inside fighter will find it easier than a tall lanky one.

Did Jeffries know how to throw a head punch?

I guess he did, but it was usually an afterthought!

Doesn't matter your body type. When you commit to the body you're leaving yourself open upstairs.

Anyways, i like Dempsey, Frazier and Tyson.

it certainly does matter,a shorter fighter will get under the punches at close range where your ribs are..a tall fighter cannot do that nearly as easy without leaving a more open defense, thats not even debatable. that's why you do not see tall swarmers in general. Fraziers success on beating ali was the exact topic we are discussing now.
