Which is a greater achievement, Tyson becoming a champion at 20 or Foreman becoming a champ at 45?

The Ring has made mistakes -no doubt about that- but to equate them with the WBC and co is nothing less than silly. Come on man.

Your conclusion is strange. I'm a fan of Tyson and always have been, but to argue that he was the youngest champion in heavyweight history holds up only until you consider the facts. I'll check out the thread but can promise you that the revisionist arguments aren't going to hold up under scrutiny.

Demigawd had a whole framework that he's worked out to justify following the schizophrenic trail of the WBC and the WBA, and it's based on an imaginary premise that says the WBC= NYSAC and the WBA=NBA. That's one flimsy foundation. He also follows Canastota's asinine idea that anyone who holds one of the "4 major belts" is a champion every bit as much as Rocky Marciano.

I can offer you a "framework" that supports that idea that the toothfairy exists.

Tony DeMarco just got into the IBHOF after being overlooked for about 30 years. One of the reasons for that is the youth of the voters and another reason for that is they read the bios (which I help produce, though mine always ignore the silly-ass belts) and those bios proclaim never-were-champions like Sven Ottke and Vinnie Paz as "multiple champions" precisely because of bad reasoning like yours and Demigawd's. Voters read through these bios and see DeMarco was only a champion once and briefly, and then see utter nonsense like the following and think DeMarco did nothing special.

    Sven Ottke
    Major Titles: IBF super middleweight (October 24, 1998-March 27, 2004); WBA super middleweight (March 15, 2003-March 27, 2004)
Record Against Champions/Titlists and Hall of Famers: 8-0 (1 KO)
Champions/Titlists faced: Charles Brewer, Glen Johnson, Silvio Branco, Anthony Mundine, Byron Mitchell, Robin Reid, Armand Kranjc
Champions/Titlists Defeated: Charles Brewer (SD 12, SD 12), Glen Johnson (UD 12), Silvio Branco (UD 12), Anthony Mundine (KO 10), Byron Mitchell (SD 12), Robin Reid (UD 12), Armand Kranjc (UD)

....It's idiocy. Be a thinking fan.

Being a boxing historian himself, I'm sure Tyson would acknowledge unreservedly that Patterson is the youngest heavyweight champ, to this day. Some posters need to realize there was boxing before the emergence of Tyson, so do a bit of research!
Patterson and Moore were the 2 leading contenders following Rocky's retirement. Moore had beaten among others, Valdes twice, while Floyd had beaten Jackson in a 12 round eliminator.
After beating Archie, Patterson, displaced Louis, becoming the youngest. He was also the undisputed champion, there were no other bogus claimants in the undergrowth, as there is today.

My guess is Tyson has more respect for boxing history and the lineal claim than most forum posters. Either way both are phenomenal accomplishments whichever way you lean on it.

    Side Note:

The Manuel Charr-Fres Oquendo fight is scheduled for March 23 in Germany.

If Fres wins he will be OLDER THAN GEORGE FOREMAN when Foreman beat Moorer.

Fres will be ONE WEEK short of his 46th birthday.

But it's for the WBA "regular" belt.

Are people who recognize Tyson as the youngest champ ever (for winning the WBC belt from Berbick) going to recognize Oquendo as the oldest heavyweight champ ever if he beats Charr?

    Just a question.
