Simple question and it is not in reference to any boxer. It is more of what ESB thinks is a more impressive feat in boxing. Please vote and give your comments if necessary.
It depends on the level of competition. If the level of competition is equal, in both weight divisions, then beating that equal competition at two weights, rather than just one - surely must be more impressive.
It´s only about the competition. You can cherry pick your way through weight divisions, that´s pretty well known... Sometimes one weightclass is weak also...so it´s all about the opponents nomatter what weight they are fighting at.
It does depend on the division as unifying the WW division would be a bigger accomplishment than moving winning titles in various other weight classes unless any of the WW champs actually skipped a division and won a title at Middleweight. It would also be equally as impressive if any of the lightweight champs moved up to beat one of the WW titlists. That's a pretty tall order though.
If you unify all three belts and keep them it means you can't duck anyone because if a guy keeps winning you'll eventually be forced to fight him.
It depends on the champs they beat. If they beat "The Man" at multiple divisions, that is more impressive. But at the same time, history looks at fighters who dominated a particular weight class much more kindly (Mayweather, Jones especially)
How about holding all 4 major belts as well as being the linear, ring champ and ring magazine p4p no.1 fighter all at the same time? I think that's an extremely impressive feat. Bernard Hopkins, only man to do it. Hopkins is also the only man to unify all 4 major belts(Taylor really didn't do it, he just won all the belts off of Hopkns. Hopkins actually collected all 4 belts in 4 separate fights.)
For me unifying all the titles in one division is more impressive because accomplishing that . . . is a proof that you rule over the rest in that weight class.
Here they are according to Boxing Rec: IBF Middleweight Champ won vs. Segundo Mercado TKO7 4/29/1995 IBF/WBC Middleweight Champ won vs. Keith Holmes UD 12 4/14/2001 WBA/WBC/IBF Undisputed Champ won vs. Felix Trinidad TKO12 9/29/2001 WBA/WBC/IBF/WBO Undisputed Champ won vs. Oscar DLH KO 9/18/2004 In all he was the reigning Middleweight Champion from 4/29/1995 to 7/16/2005, just over a decade with 21 title defenses.
Plenty of fighters have handpicked opportune opponents (David Diaz) to move up and take titles from. That's nothing too special. If you're going to unify the titles though, at some point you'll have to beat someone tough.
yeah he has a point..... but at the end of the day, too many variables, because it all depends on the fighters themselves more then the feat....if you're a 3 weight class world champion fighting B class fighters or shot champions, then what does that really mean at the end of the day? and if you unify a divison without any A class competition that doesn't really mean all that much either....it all depends on who you beat
