A US v Euro beer contest is a completely lop-sided match-up. Belgian Trapist beer (10-12%) even KO1 US beer....with absolute ease.
Compared to Euro beers 4.5% is **** water. Even 16 year olds in Belgium can legally drink over 5% Stella for ****s sake
Pound for pound the top fementing beers of Belgiums abbeys rule the ATG list Some bottom fermenting czech german and dutch beers are up there. But nothing beats the G.O.A.T : my personal brew of autumn 2005 : Melancholy! a top fermenting 12 % autumn beer made from dark light and black barley laced with coriander seed, Orange peel, flavored with fuggles hops and sweet gale. (sweet gale=gagel being the predecessor of hops and having slightly halucinogenic properties :nut). Made in my nano brewery. The 20 liters are long gone. Still. Best beer ever.
Just because it gets made it in a micro-brewery does not make it good. Honestly these beers get over-rated and they taste like ****. I personally prefer drinking Bohemia. It's not a beer I would get drunk off but I enjoy having 1 or 2 for the taste/texture.
Monty Python quote: American beer tastes like making love in a canoe - it's f..king close to water. -------------------- european beer easily!
One word, Trappist. Euro KO1. There are some great American micro brews, but overall the quality of European beer is much greater than that of American beer. I humbly submit my expert opinion as an advid sampler of fine beers and the great grandson of a braumeister.
I was assuming you'd understand my bias toward my own homemade brew and take my GOAT remark as it was intended. Humorously. Still it was a great beer and better than any big american brand beer i have sampled. 10 yrs of personal hands on experience coming up with recipes didnt completely go to waste.
As far as mass produced beers go: 1. New Castle Brown Ale 2. Negra Modelo 3. Stella Artois and, somewhere in the bottom 10,000 I've got Bud, Miller, and Coors
I love our ale, Belgian alers, and Austrian and German lagers, bu some of theUS beer is frankly awesome. Goose Island is my fave, though Rogue is good too. On the whoe, US - but I like ultra hoppy beer
A fellow hobby brewer! How refreshing! Never tried acacia myself since its not common in northern europe. But if you ever try it let me know the outcome!
But that's because we imported absolute shite like bud and miler. now you can get Sierra Nevada, Goose Island and Anchor steam quite widely. However, these barely qualify as craft beers in the US now. They have so many great microbreweries and microbrewery chains, for example Gordon Biersch, that it puts even the mighty London to shame. What micrrobreweries do we have in the smoke? The Greenwich Union - not bad sure - is about the most famous but is hardly legend... Title fight: US vs Belgium:good Contenders fight: Germany vs UK:bbb
