These poll results are just silly.

He can take or leave Donaire. Winning the tournament would be the real accomplishment. Avenging that single loss would just be gravy.

Juan Manuel Marquez is probably never going to get a chance to avenge his loss to Manny Pacquiao (not that he even could at this point), but his legacy won't suffer for it. If it happened and he miraculously won, it would just be gravy. This is the same thing. He lost to another good fighter of his era - that doesn't define his whole career (or shouldn't, anyway). If he picks up some really big wins instead, it shouldn't even matter a bit.

it was donaire who backed out. he had 4 weeks or so but never signed. he had a whinge and it is obvious that he is still using the win against vic to bolster his worth. without that win nobody would even be talking about donaire, lol.

    but its his choice.

Forget about donaire. What has he done lately, not exactly legacy defining! Vics resume speaks for itself just move on to the tourney.

    As to your second question:

Both. At this point of his career, a loss would mean retirement imo.

Vic winning this tourney would be huge..!! And in the process he would also be avenging a loss if he were to meet Agbeko in the final. Moving up and beating 2 of the top guys at 118 is huge. I think he can do good at 118, Last time he jumped straight to the top without getting accustom to the weight.

It was Donaire who backed out as his team refused to get into real negotiations. Darchinyan was absolutely ready to sign, as was Showtime, but there wasn't anything to sign, so Vic moved on, took a fight on short notice then chose to participate in this great bantamweight tournament - another opportunity Donaire declined.

You can't force Nonito to take on a top fighter I guess, thought it might be the people around him wasting this OUTSTANDING fighter's career. The same old Top Rank hat trick: they backed out promising a big fight they failed to deliver, it was supposed to be Donaire-Montiel this year, Pavlik-Abraham last year, Lopez-Caballero at 122 and we got none of it, it was all BS talk.

Now to comment on the thread: winning the tournament would mean much more. Vic easily put behind his loss vs. a then low-ranked contender by beating a top7 P4P-er and facing 5 world champions in a row and capturing the lineal undisputed SFW crown, and winning the BW tournament would be the crowning of a HOF-worthy career, though not necessary to get in. But I don't see him winning, to beat two much bigger men in Mares and Perez, I don't see that happening, but I'll surely root for the Raging Bull.

Winning the tournament, I don't think he'll get past Mares but if he does he'll get a crack at either Agbeko who he's already lost to, or more likely Perez who beat Agbeko. So if he's able to beat either of them he'll have another world title and the opportunity for some big fights at bantamweight with the likes of Montiel and Moreno. Beating Donaire now, wouldn't really mean as much.
