Which is Bob Fitzsimmons greatest accomplishment. Pick TWO

Triple crown winner at Middle, Light heavy and Heavy

    KO 2 over Tom Sharkey

    KO 1 over Peter Maher.

Winning the title from an un-defeated Corbett

Stopping Jack O’Brien at age 41

Knocking out 7 men in one night in 19 combined rounds.

Not knowing that much about Bob Fitzsimmons I chose 1. Tripple crown winner and 2. Knocking out 7 men in one night, though I have no idea who these men were and weather or not they were serious fights. The man is definitely p4p great though. I don't personally rate him as the GOAT but probably wouldn't have a problem with anyone who does.

I lean towards the Corbett victory. Jim was no old champion and a difficult styles match-up. Bob showed character in changing the tide and legendary technique in finishing the champ with one punch.

1.Stopping the leading two contenders for Jeffries crown in the space of two weeks at the age of 37 years old, something that Jeffries had not been able to do up to at that time.

    2. Winning three titles though the competition was not that deep.

I think at 160 odd pounds winning the title the way he did against an accomplished champion like Corbett takes some beating.
It was more the way he did it,taking a beating and being floored in the first half of the fight, then rallying and taking the champion out with a body shot after 14 rounds is quite remarkable.
Also I go with McVey taking out 2 challengers of that ilk in such a short space of time, what can you say!

Yeah, his absurd dominance over Dempsey belongs up there.

I forgot to add that one. Good point. It should be on the poll, but was it more impressive that blasting out Sharkey in 2 rounds, or Maher in 1?

To me, yes. Fitzsimmons out-boxed and out-generalled Demspey. He was probably regarded as the best general alive at bell.

Fitz as a puncher used 2 knuckle landing the plan was to get all his force
in a small area for sharper impact
    first second knuckle

Fitz was a the best pound for pound KO artist. How he did it is debatable. I think it was a mix of things. Hand speed. Getting leverage and driving his blow through his target. Knowing where to hit and with what part of the hand to strike with.

I think Fitz's ability to get a KO from a ranked man 30-40+ pounds higher is unmatched. He killed 3 men from boxing. I did not want to list this as an accomplishment, but it does underscore how deadly he could be.

I was under the impression Dempsey was ill by the time he fought Fitzsimmons. His record is impossible to evaluate,[ for me at least,] as we/I ,don't know enough about his opposition.

Yes, that's what stops Bob getting full credit for the victory. Word is Dempsey was suffering from haemorrhages prior to the fight.

As a second pick I'd side with mcvey that his knockouts of Ruhlin and Sharkey (two weeks apart) is up there with his heavyweight title win.
