There's something odd about Bowe's head to head status on this forum:

People often give Bowe an edge because he's a skilled superheavyweight. Essentially because of size. But he primarily demonstrated his skills against a small opponent, not another superheavyweight. If size is so important, then Bowe's best opponent leaves a lot to be desired.

Not really. Hitting someone on the canvas is about as low as you can go.

    Yup.

His three best wins are HolyX2 and Hide.

So he can beat up on cruisers.

H2H I think Bowe gets overated and Wlad underrated. You hear people all the time saying Bowe would have beat Tyson and Lewis when there is a lot lacking on his resume to suggest that.

I think Gonzales might be the only large heavyweight worth a damn with any credentials Bowe beat (good amateur background, prime and undefeated as a pro). That was a decent win, but aside from him Bowe fought approximately zero world class big men over 6'3 and over 230. So you're right, we really don't know how effective his style would be with that criteria.

He feasted on smaller opponents like Holy, Seldon, Hide, Cooper, Mathis Jr, etc. Tubbs had good skill but was fairly old and fat.

Not only was Holyfield smaller and not remotely a super heavyweight, he didn't have a lot of power either.

I don't see Wlad getting overly highly rated in here considering his longevity once he hit his straps. People go both ways with Bowe and both groups have a pretty decent foundation from which to launch. At any rate his series with Holyfield is pretty impressive in his for column. At the end of the day Holyfield is an absolute warrior and no easy out for even the vast majority of ATG's. He'd win his share.

I think that Bowe is underrated due to his ranking generally being less certain.

If Bowe is overrated H2H, it's because people are thinking of how great he looked in his first fight with Holyfield and giving him some extra points for the potential he had. I agree he represents a ton of wasted potential.

That said, the quickness with which he acquired pretty severe CTE has to be genetic.
