I'm wondering if it seems a certain fighter goes down more from temple shots than from jaw punches has to do more with the angle the punch ? Maybe those are the ones he doesn't see coming? Jaw punches are more in the line of sight than the shots to the side of the head.
Me too - in the 80 or so total rounds I've sparred at my local gym over the past two years, the worst I've been hurt is from temple shots which completely disoriented me. Amongst pros, even guys who have solid chins get wobbled by equilibrium punches.
Johnson knocked Jones out cold with a temple shot; Pacquiao knocked Hatton out cold with a chin check...so...both.
temple shots are good for knockdowns. You feel it shoot right down the legs. The chin for knock out. that jaw bone gets pushed into the spine.
Any type of shot, with any decent power, what hits the right spot can knock a boxer down. I'd probably say they are equal in terms of knocking someone down...but when it comes to knocking someone out, it's more than likely from a shot to the chin.
by reading this thread i can tell 60% never put on boxing gloves and 95% never been hit. this question cant be answered becuz it varies on person to person. some people hav iron jaw and some somepeople hav inner ear stablity so there equalibrium wont get messed from a temple shot. its like saying which will hurt more the right rib or the left rib
