So why do a lot of American boxing fans slag off the likes of Cleverly and Brook when they haven't seen them fight? Unless they base opinions of 30 second YouTube clips.
Very much Vice Versa for me, I recognise most on the gloden boy card, but not all, whereas on the Warren I recognise all of them and have seen them all fight at least 3 or 4 times :think Its just a US/UK thing I suppose.
Exactly. :good Like I said, a lot of my fellow Americans are extremely ignorant of the sport once you get outside of names that appear on ESPN/HBO/Showtime.
OK I'm going to give a quick synopsis of each fight for the anyone who isn't to familiar with the fighers on the Warren Card. 12x3 Light Heavyweight - Interim (possibly full) WBO Light Heavyweight Title - Nathan Cleverly (19-0-0, 9 KO's) - Karo Murat (22-0-0, 13 KO's) Ring Magazine Rankings - Cleverly #9 Murat #8 ESPN Rankings - Cleverly #10 Murat #9 Box Rec Rankings - Cleverly #9 Murat #11 This could be for the full title if Braehmar loses his appeal and goes inside. This is a fight between the two best young undefeated Light Heavyweights without a title, the winner takes away the question mark by their name and becomes a legitimate top 5/6 175lber as well as a title holder. 12x3 Middleweight - European Middleweight Title - Matthew Macklin (26-2-0, ) - Darren Barker (22-0-0, 14 KO's) Ring Magazine Rankings - Macklin #6 Barker N/A Box Rec Rankings - Macklin #5 Barker #6 This is a straight up match up of the two best Middleweights in Britain. Matt Macklin had a number of good wins last year whilst Barker has added titles to his Commonwealth title and has remained undefeated. The winner will be one fight away from a world title shot. Or if you believe rumours if Macklin wins he could get a shot at Danny Jacobs if he wins the WBO. 12x3 Light Middleweight - European Light Middleweight Title - Ryan Rhodes (44-4-0, 30 KO's) - Lukas Konecky (44-3-0, 21 KO's) - Ring Magazine Rankings - Rhodes #5 Konecky #NA ESPN Boxing Rankings - Rhodes #6 Box Rec Rankings - Rhodes #7 Konecky #17 Rhodes is having something of a renaisance, his career looked dead just a couple of years ago but a number of wins including a career best win against Jamie Moore has seen him get within touching distance of a title shot. Konecky is a teek tough skilled European with a padded record but it is deceiving in that he does have skills he gave Sergiy Dzinziruk all he could handle losing a narrow MD back in 08. If Rhodes wins a shot at the WBC Light Middleweight Title against Antonio Margarito could await. 12x3 WBO Welterweight Title Eliminator - Kell Brook (21-0-0, 14 KO's) - Michael Jennings (36-2-0, 17 KO's) Box Rec Rankings - Brook #6 Jennings #44 Brook is one of the hot shots in British Boxing but hasn't really faced a legit fringe contender yet here he takes a step up in class taking on the experienced and skilled Jennings. Jennings fell short against Cotto but don't take him for granted he may not be elite but he is a solid fringe contender that hasn't had the breaks or opponents that he deserves. This will be a great change to gage just how good Kell Brook is. 12x3 British & Commonwealth Heavyweight Title - Derrick Chisora (13-0-0, 8 KO's) - Sam Sexton (13-1-0, 6 KO's) Box Rec Rankings - Chisora #31 Sexton #13 A rematch between the two best Heavyweights in Britain. Both are young and both have a couple of good wins recently. This is a rematch of a fight they had earlier in their careers both have improved since. The winner moves into title contention the loser stays at the domestic scene. 12x3 European Cruiserweight Title - Enzo Maccerinelli (32-4-0, 25 KO's) - Alexander Frenkel (22-0-0, 17 KO's) Box Rec Rankings - Maccerinelli #14 Frenkel #17 A chance for Enzo to get back to where he once was as he takes on a hard banging German prospect, a win for him cements his place back in the top 10. The winner could also find themselves in Saurlands Cruiserweight mix. This doesn't include title fights for big potential stars like James Degale and Frankie Gavin who will be taking big step up fights on this card.
Thanks IB. It's not the end of the world some people are just interested in the elite level of the sport. I'm just happy we are seeing two great shows in quick succesion and as I'm British I am delighted that after 25+ years Frank Warren is finally beginning to take risks with his fighters.
personally the warren card but thats because ive seen all the fighters many times before and am familiar with all of them.cleverley-murat, brook-jennings and chisora-sexton are three great little fights and i particulary look forward to Macklin ending the hype over barker. the GBP card i like juarez-linares and jacobs-pirog.Im not interested in the main event tbh and bika-mendy which could be a ******* isnt even on the televised uc unless the other fights end early i think. Obviously the U.S. fans will prefer the GBP card as they dont know the warren fighters but I think warrens card will be much better value.I still wont buy the PPV though.ill be there in person
