Roy has not damaged his legacy in my eyes . Same as ali did not deminish his or duran. Or chavez or leonard. Or robinson or louis they all carry on too long its part of being a fighter. Roy just gets stick now because hes current and relevent in that sense. Once roy is gone people will remember just how good he was.

    agreed,

Anything that happened to him from about Tarver onward isn't a representation of anything that he did in his prime or how great he was.. He was 35 by the time he met Tarver and taxed his body by jumping up to heavy and back down again in such a short time.
The REAL Roy Jones was the one who fought from 1995-2000.

I thought the same! Just like they make you a better sprinter or American footballer. If there were no advantage in taking them why do people cheat?

Patterson gave Liston a title shot. In terms of avoiding the best contenders while champion, Jack Johnson wins hands down.

Taking part in a fix imo is so damning that there is no second!

Losing to an over the hill or green fighter most affects it for me.

'actively' avoiding the best a la Mayweather affects things for me too

And getting stopped early is never a good thing especially its a smaller guy - but depends on the guy - Lennox took a hit for me gettinG stopped by MCall for instance

Being inactive in prime is somewhat dictated by whats going on in the world at times and has no baring on how good a fighter proves to be when he is in there aswell?

Admitting involvement in a fix again doesnt change how good you actually are too - didnt make Lamotta, Dempsey, Langford any less of a fighter - obviously benefitting from a fix is pretty Much discounted such as Ali-Liston etc

Getting DQd doesn t have a huge impact for me as again unless youre getting DQd all the times it rarely happens (maybe once in a career if that?)

Hanging around too long doesnt change how good or affect what they acheived when i prime?

Avoiding certain styles is akin to avoiding the best for me

Avoiding the best contenders while champion

Getting stopped early by a smaller fighter

Admitting to or alluding to a pre-arrangement in a boxing match

Being inactive in a fighters prime years

Hanging around too long, and making fans forget how good you are/were

Losing via DQ in a title fight

Losing a match to a fighter who was over the hill or very green.

^^^ So your saying Johnson has all the boxes checked? That's debatable. I think he was active enough in his prime years. If I really wanted to make this about Johnson I'd leave that out.

It wasn't I who first mentioned Johnson either. :hi:
