If we can now assume he never fights again, which atg heavy would you rank him above? In terms of remaining at the top, whatever the state of the division and dominating so long is he for example above Holmes? Holyfield, Lewis, Tyson?
The biggest name you put wlad above iyo 's?

I'd put him over Liston hovering outside the top 10

In regards to quality of heavyweight opposition, activity and length of dominance, there is a very good argument to rank him above Dempsey.

His career was pretty similar to Holmes', so there's a case for putting him ahead.

Off the top of my head:
    1 Louis
    2 Ali

    3 Lewis
    4 Holmes
    5 Foreman
    6 Wlad

    7 Holyfield
    8 Frazier
    9 Tyson

I am not a big Wlad fan, so this pains me. A couple of years ago I wouldn't have let him near or in the top 10. But in retrospect weak era or not (not sure if there is a consensus on this) He was the top guy in his division for a long period of time. I think you could argue him in the 4-5 range...not sure how guys justify placing him outside of the top 10 altogether

Just cannot get the image of an old Corrie Sanders landing that straight left up the middle at will. Like taking candy from a baby. It was that easy. No, it was actually easier than that. I can't think of the proper analogy right now to describe how easily a shot Corrie Sanders beat down Wlad.

Lennox Lewis and Mike Tyson maybe.

    More definitely, Max Baer.

Definitely baer. I think you can put wlad on the same level as Lewis, in terms of longentivity and not having a huge amount of losses he's got to be quite high.

You'd have him above or equal to Lennox Lewis. :risas3:

You guys must have lost your minds!

You have to give the man credit for remaining at the top so long undefeated. OK, his generation wasn't the greatest, it wasn't the 70 s by a long shot, but he more or less unified and kept on defending. I can't think of anyone apart from Holmes and Lewis that's done that in the past 40 years. His style drove me mad sometimes but I'm putting him near Lewis for sticking it out so long.

I have always seen longevity as the centrepiece to Lewis's claim to greatness, and Wladimir out-did him in that department by a big margin.
Wlad was dull but Lewis was fairly dull too.
Lewis maybe has one or two wins better quality than anything Wladimir has.
They were both KO'd by mediocre contenders.
    It's close.

Lewis has the edge in quality of opponents, he was around in a better era. But wlad beats him for the time at the top. Both had shocking out of the blue losses and both were described as safety first at times. So definitely close, one doesn't really rise above the other.
