Reid-Trinidad WAS NOT a beatdown. Reid was dominating the first half of the fight and even knocked down Cheato and stunned him until Cheato notoriously started going low as usual. Even up to the final bell Reid was landing at will and had Cheato cautious at times. The droopy eye and Cheato's illegal wraps ruined Reid, not Cheato's so called "power".

    umm...

Brutal KO's can ruin a fighter quickly.. Ruin you mentally...

Very one sided non competitive prolonged beatdowns are up there.... (Calzaghe/Lacy)

Cotto will be alright... We went to war with Margarito and was still able to dig deep and go toe to toe with Clottey... And even in a losing effort against Manny, he was still fighting and probably could have made it to the final bell....

A long beating is considerably worse than a first round KTFO usually. The sustained beating can cause many internal injuries usually not sustained during a 1 round drubbing. Where as a concussion can occur in a 1 round drubbing, multiple mini concussions as well as damage to internal organs can happen during the prolonged fight.

One prolonged beat down can ruin your whole career, just like it did to Lacy ( vs Calzaghe) and John Mugabi (vs Hagler). There is some quick knockouts that you can recover from and there's some that you can't. A Torres vs Holt kind of knockout, can end your career as well. But a smaller type knockout like Williams vs Quintana II, you can come back from.

Cotto's beatings against Margarito and Pacquaio, combined with the other hard fights hes been in (Torres, Corley, Mosley, Judah ect) could accumulate and show soon, we'll just have to wait and see. Coming back against Foreman might not be good idea for him.

A quick ko is more embarseing but probbly would have less long term physical effects.

The Calzaghe schooling on Lacy seemed to effect Lacy's future fights quite noticeably.

A pronged beat down is worse in the long run. A quick KO is worse in the short run. Why didn't you put up a poll?

Prolonged beatings can and have killed boxers.

Gabriel Ruelas vs. Jimmy Garcia quickly comes to mind
and let's not forget the damage caused by the prolonged beating
    Mclellan took from Nigel Benn!!

A long beating is terrible for a fighter. A quick knockout does not do much except maybe hurt their confidence, but if they can fight soon enough after and start winning they are usually fine. Also, if a fighter loses to a great puncher they can live with it usually. Norris vs. Jackson was a bad fight for Norris, but hardly anyone punches as hard as Jackson, so Norris could just say he got a little careless. And he moved on. And to some people Norris will go down as a greater fighter than Jackson ever was.
