It depends on the action level and the skills shown.

I'll watch a brawl with less skills shown like Gatti-Ward I over a highly skilled chessmatch like Leonard-Benitez.

But I like a boxing match with good action and leather thrown like Toney-McCallum 1 rather than a really ugly slugfest like Foreman-Lyle or Shavers-Williams.

I'm a fan of the sweet science so I said pure boxing but as a boxing fan I can appreciate all styles.

Pure boxing for me personally. But I got no problems seeing an all out brawl either, if we get both in one fight I'm a happy panda.

More of a pure boxing fan with a bit of a flurry to keep things interesting. I think some people might think of 'boring' fights when it comes to pure boxing, but the longer you follow it the more you appreciate things such as defense, footwork and ringcraft in general. If you like just brawling you might prefer to watch more UFC or something.

The best example of pure boxing, in my mind, was Larry Holmes versus Witherspoon. Competitive, but both had the scorecards in mind, and gave away as little as possible.

    BOTH.

A pure boxing fight is not very exciting.
A brawl is nice but it lacks the spice to make it bigger.

A boxing/brawl type makes for a very good fights.

Nothing beats the excitement of a knock-down, drag-out brawl - those are the kind of fights that got me into boxing, and keep me coming back for more.

    Me too. Mosley-DLH 1, Marquez-Barrera, Morales-Pacquiao, Leonard-Duran, Morales-Barrera could be categorized as a mix too.

    But I love brawls like Gatti-Ward, Limon-Chicon IV, Gatti-Robinson I.

Nothing better than watching them tear it up in the ring.

I think the best fights are combos of both. Too many seem to believe that the two are mutually exclusive for some reason, but if comes down to a tactical chess match where no one is hurt or a knockdown, dragout brawl I'll take the brawl every time. I think the best fights combine skill with some hurting e.g. Mosley-De La Hoya I, Tito-Vargas, Bowe-Golota, etc

That's interesting that you choice those two examples. I would not prefer one over the other. To me, both those fights were edge of the seat stuff.

The one type of fight that I always look forward to is the classic brawler vs boxer. Provided both guys are good at what they do, those type of fights can be high drama!

I like a mixture of highly skilled boxing and a brawl. That's why I love watching many Latin fighters because they combine both. They are skilled and tough.

You can't really just categorize them like that. Plus, as some people stated, your examples are off. I like a good mix of both of them
