For me it's Ruiz. Could not stand his corner or antics in the ring. If Lewis Ko'd him, Ruiz would have gone away, and fans would have been sparred numerous dull title fights.

Wladamir Klitschko is the obvious one.

I can understand why it didn't happen, but it would have been interesting from a historical perspective, to see the dominant champions from two adjacent eras matched.

Would've liked to have seen him fight Tyson in '96. Tyson wasn't in his prime but Lewis wasn't quite Lewis either.

Chris Byrd probably has the best claim of all the men he didn't fight.

Lewis vs Bowe in 1995. They could have fought in 1993 hadn't Bowe vacated his title, but that would be prime Bowe vs pre prime Lewis. In 1997 it would be prime Lewis vs shot Bowe. In 1995 Bowe was slightly past his prime and Lewis was entering his one.

But out of the fights mentioned by Mendoza I was most interested in Lewis vs Byrd fight

I would have liked to have seen Lewis v Foreman too. If only Shannon Briggs didn't rob Foreman

Can you imagine Foreman face if he'd met Lewis instead of Briggs?
    Battered!

Lets stick to the opponents listed in this thread before mentioning other names.

Foreman was very old at that time but I think in his early comeback years would beat Lewis but prime Foreman would kill him!
But I know one very nice contender who went undefeated and outclassed Tua same way Lewis did and was upcoming champion!Yes I'm talkih about Ibeabuchi!
Lewis vs Ibeabuchi would be the best fight of 90s!

Hmm, 1995 Bowe probably would have lost.
Early 90s Lewis and Bowe, Bowe would have stomped the **** out of him. Too bad about Bowe's crappy manager.

For me, off the above then, it's Ruiz for the reason s you mentioned.
Lewis would hopefully have destroyed him and knocked him out of the title picture for a while, or even better, for good.
Chris Bryd is another. He had a claim to be one of the best in the division at that time. He was basically a blown up middle doing extremely well against big heavyweight s, would have been interested to see how he coped against Lennox.
If Lewis came in over comfortable and laid back, then that's when Chris could snatch a decision win.
If he comes in pissed off and wanting him gone, then after being given the run around by Byrd, he finally catches up and wrecks him.

Evander Holyfield had he successfully defended against Riddick Bowe in nov 1992 would have defended his title against Lewis next in early 93. It would have been a fascinating matchup but I would have favoured Holyfield who was more or less at his physical peak at that time and at that particular point in their careers to win a close decision.
