Moorer was huge at LHW, so you have to imagine he was a McClellan'esque nightmare power wise there.

I always thought him laying out iron man Jirov while behind the cards and straight up fat was an underrated showing, considering his condition.

Also, why is there literally no discussion about the differences in the sport between now and a hundred plus years ago?

    Glove size, hand wrapping.

We're talking about an era that didn't even have a neutral corner rule. Seems a pretty important distinction to make if you're discussing power.

Which LHY fights in which the neutral corner rule, was not in place ,were affected by the absence of it ?
In which fights in which smaller gloves were used would the result have been materially affected.

    Michael Moorer? Nope

Had trouble stopping a shot Leslie Stewart

Probably Bob Foster and Michael Spinks, with Matthew Saad Muhammad close behind.

Saad laid out Lottie Mwale with one punch; stopped Murray Sutherland and Louis Pergaud with one punch. Stopped Jerry Martin with one right hand. 4 out of 8 defenses one punch KOs.

Also, badly hurt Marvin Johnson with one straight right. Johnson was essentially saved by the bell ending round 7.

As a rising contender, pole axed perrenial contender Ritchie Kates for a one punch ko in the 6th round. Even faded, stopped Pete McIntyre with one hellacious right cross.

(off topic) Gregory would have whipped 'em all if the moron's head had been screwed on straight!
    Possible exception: Foster

I'll vote Moore... His power carried up to heavyweight in a more modern era than Fitz

The fighter who hit the hardest while weighing under the LHW limit, might well have been Joe Choynski.

I'm going to agree here. Moorer didn't have a top rate resume at light heavy and what he did at heavy doesn't register for this topic. I would put him at a very high level but beneath Foster and Saad.

You could include him because there is a school of thought that he was actually the first LHVY World Champion!

I'd have to go with Mac here and pick Foster, as Fitzsimmons by the time he was the 175 title holder was well in decline and basically an old man.
Over the full range of his career though I'd suspect Fitzsimmons was a harder hitter than even Foster.

For pure brutal one punch power against legitimate top competition B.Foster, with the Old Mongoose A.Moore a close 2nd. Michael The Spinx jinx 3rd. Matthew Saad 4th. And a fighter not listed, Marvin Johnson.

One things pretty much sure jowcol,..that Eddie was, when his damned head was screwed on straight that is, perhaps the most well rounded lightheavy of all,...and that includes one punch power, which he was indeed capable of....ask Lottle Mwale, that is if he has the prerequisite number of brain cells left, after being clocked by both Eddie and Saad Muhammad.
