Notice I say , give him a hard fight , not actually beat him ! Billy Conn gave him a close run thing , which other lght heavys thru history could maybe have his corner worried ?
Ezzard Charles, in my heavily biased opinion, would beat any version of Louis from Conn onwards. Spinks, Moore, Tunney and Fitsimmons could all give him issues. Foster, Jones and Greb all get stopped imo, Greb walking forward into Louis's punches without the power to keep him off is a death sentence. Jones and Foster just don't have the durability to beat Louis. Putting any light heavy against the best Louis is like sending a prisoner to executioner's block
Jones' speed would give him problems. But admittedly, Roy would eventually get caught and violently KO'd.
Pastrano was a dancing master like Conn, probably even faster on his feet and with his hands than Billy, but without the panache. Willie also had a lot of experience against heavyweights since he fought in that division for most of his career, so size wouldn't have intimidated him. Based on Conn's performance against Louis, I think Willie might have given Joe fits. The thought never occurred to me before until you invented this thread, McVey. I'm not a Pastrano fan, but I'd give him a chance to defeat Joe. I can't believe I'm saying this!! I just now talked myself into this line of reasoning.
Michael Spinks he was just so damn awkward Ezzard Charles skilled enough to avoid Louis's firepower. Archie Moore could fit in to this category. Roy Jones Jr. Just on a diffrent planet as far as reflexes and defensive skills. Believe it or not Qawi. Very hard to hit cleanly, he made his lack of height asset . Everyone else is pretty easy to hit and if Louis could hit his opponent it usually wasn't a long fight.
