which of these light heavys would roy be favored against?
you can vote for more than one

obviously current versions of all fighters
i used the ring top ten and threw in cloud since he's fighting woods for an abc trinket soon

Everyone except Hopkins, Dawson Johnson and Pascal.

I think given recent performances, he might be slightly favored over Tarver.

I think he could beat Johnson. The RJ that fought Johnson was completely gun shy and not in any mental condition to fight. He was shell shocked. The RJ of today would not let GJ rip away. He'll probably win a UD.

    Hopkins - Obviously not

Dawson - I don't think he can outspeed someone with Dawson's reach these days.

    Tarver - see Dawson

Johnson - didn't he already KTFO Jones? His habit of laying back when he gets attached would really hurt him here.

Erdei - 50/50 fight to me. Not a bad style matchup for Jones, but Erdei also might spark him.

Pascal - Jones may be more accurate, but Pascal ius quick himself and I'd have to think one of his wild haymakers would land eventually.

Diaconu - Tailor made for Jones - a short, slow opponent who Jones could dance around and pop from the outside. Jones would win a dominant decision.

Woods - If the Woods who fought Tarver shows up, Jones would do the same to Woods as he'd do to Diaconu

Mack - Similar to Pascal, only not as quick. If Jones could outlast him until Mack tires out, he could win a decision, but I suspect Mack would use his reach to connect with a wild shot at some point.

    Henry - See Diaconu.

Yeah, but that was a RJ that was in no mental condition to fight that night. He was completely shell shocked.

Actually, one of RJ's best attributes is his ability to fight off the ropes. During his prime, he would routinely invite his opponents to the ropes where he would rip his opponents apart with his far superior hand speed. We saw a perfect example of that against Lacy.

RJ is and always will be able to beat Johnson as long as he shows up with the right mindset. In their first fight, RJ was mentally not right. Today, he is.

I pretty much agree with Brickhaus, but I mis-read the question and voted wrong.

Can't see him beating Dawson, Hopkins, Pascal or Johnson.

I'd put Erdei and Tarver in the maybes.

The rest he'd have a strong chance against.

I need to see RJ fight someone with just as much pop as Jeff Lacy but with the offensive capability to make it more competitive before I decide if Roy is indeed back. I love Roy but other than Calz he has been picking his fights carefully and I have yet to see if he has the heart to withstand an attack like in the Glenn Johnson fight. Clearly he beats some of those on the list but the top 4 I doubt it.

Bernard and Chad are his only problems man. Glen Johnson too slow for him, He authored Pascal's whole style, Tavoris Cloud will take care of Clinton Woods and Tavoris can't step to Roy, Mack loses everytime he tries to step up in comp, Tarver is shot to sh*t, Diaconu has no defense, and that Zsolt guy doesn't have one significant win.

    very interesting results so far

so it looks like we would have roy as a heavy favorite over erdei, mack, diaconu and woods (who he beat in 2002)

    even with cloud

a 2-1 underdog to previous conquerors tarver and johnson

a 4-1 dog to current champs dawson and pascal

and a longshot against b-hop (who he beat in the stone age)

Don't think he would beat Dawson.

BHop probably not too, but he has a decent chance at least.

    50-50 fight with Johnson.

All the others I would pick Roy to win.

Erdei, Tarver, Diaconu and Mack. I'm still waiting to see how much Woods has left, same with Johnson. I haven't seen enough of Cloud to comment, I don't think he'd beat Hopkins or Dawson at this point. Pascal would be tough.
