    Harry Greb.

(you said Light-Heavyweight Champions[not "world"]. Greb was the American Light-Heavyweight Champ for a time, so he counts ;))

in the 90s, the wbo wasn't even a recognized title. jones unified the ibf, wbc, and wba belts and then eventually was awarded the "ring" belt in '02. people can say DM was the linear champ but even he knows who the real champ was. also, that lineage was started from the maske-hill fight. it's kind of comical to name a linear champ from that fight when the day before it, jones beat mccallum for a belt at 175.

if i remember correctly it was also by dq. jones then destroyed griffin in one in the rematch. i like jones and spinks over moore. i'm not so confident in the other light heavy champs beating moore.

 So despite Patterson getting his head jabbed off by Joey Maxim(whom Archie beat 3 times)...you actually expect a 19 year old 175lb Floyd to beat a 1952 motivated Archie Moore?

As much of an 80's guy as I am, and as big a fan of Spinks as I am, I see Moore beating him. I see a lot of the same kind of thing being pulled on him as we saw Mustafa Muhammad do to Spinks in the first few rounds of their fight, but Archie would be able to sustain it longer......stuff like the defense, those thudding, short right hands to the ribs, the patient, surgical attack.....I think he'd have Spinks running a bit and highly confused.

I really like the Conn pick. Never seen Loughran fight, can't really comment there.

Maske-Hill were number one and two in the division when they fought.
Those belts Jones unified, he could only unify because other fighters were unrightfully stripped of them. DM unified before him and got stripped of the belts unrightfully who Jones then won afterwards. Which makes him winning those belts practuically worthless because DM was the true IBF and WBA champ. The WBC belt was the one he only got by the WBC f*cking over Rocchigiani who actuelly held it but was then degraded to "interim champ" and Jones got awarded it on a silver plate. Rocchigiani sued the WBC and won. Jones pulled out of their fight.
Jones never was the champ at lhw. He was a belt holder, not more, not less. We discussed that numerous time and those are the facts - also I do expect PowerPuncher to show up to twist facts around and deny everything or something like that, like he always does.

Come on, Q, the Maxim loss was controversial and there are many people thinking Patterson actually won this. He also was practically a baby in against a HoFer. Even when you think he lost, it´s quite impressive.

Personally, I think Patterson would always trouble Moore with his speed and style. The Patterson who fought Maxim probably won´t beat him but a later hw Patterson who still was able to make lhw does like he did at hw.

Patterson wasn´t a lhw champ though and shouldn´t be mentioned here.

Foster. Then a step down possibly Spinks ..

Loughran would have to pitch a no hitter and that's not happening ...

Conn was amazing but Moore poses a far different challenge than the more mechanical Louis ... Archie has so many gears I just think he was better ..

Non-Champs, which was clearly excluded , I like Langford, Tunney and Charles over him ..
I love Spinks but feel Archie has so much more actual fight experience ... Spinks also could look quite beatable as he did against Eddie Davis ...

It's very easy to disregard the first Montell Griffin fight but Jones had his share of troubles with Griffin, who wasn't a great fighter by any means. If Jones fought Moore the way he fought Griffin the second time, it would be lights out very early for Jones, the big difference being that unlike Griffin, Moore could punch. Jones just walked through him in the rematch, giving no respect to his punching power. Against the hard-punching Moore he would be similarly tentative as he was against Griffin the first time.

Moore would bring to the table all of the aspects that gave Jones trouble in the first fight (counter punching, feinting, intelligent pressure, awkwardness) without allowing Jones the option of simply using his sheer speed and power to overwhelm Griffin, who was a relatively small light heavyweight at 5'7 without exceptional power or strength. Moore was physically a very strong light heavyweight who took the fight to the likes of Bob Baker and Nino Valdes, both over 210 lbs.
