We know that Eddy Reynoso - who is Canelo's trainer, I have to add - has stated that if/when Canelo unifies the super-middleweight division by claiming Caleb Plant's IFB title, he'll move up to challenge Beterbiev. I'm curious how do you think these several fighters would fare against Canelo at 175lbs. After all, a past-his-prime Sergey Kovalev, who only three-months early fought Yarde - and was almost knocked out, mind you - had given Canelo a run for his money (to an extent) and was awarded generously on the scorecards. Also the fact there was a rehydration clause in the fight. But I'm curious whether the power of some of the boxers below would spook Canelo into becoming non-committal and tentative (as what happened when Saunders felt Canelo's power in the early rounds yesterday)? Artur Beterbiev Dmitry Bivol Joe Smith Jr Joshua Buatsi Lyndon Arthur Callum Johnson Anthony Yarde All comments are welcomed ~
Beterbiev has been so inactive that despite his great ability he’d probably underperform and put in a mediocre performance against Canelo. I’d like to see him fight another top fighter at 175 to see what he has left before seeing him against Canelo. I’d rather see Canelo fight Joe Smith Jr., just for the fact that he’s been more active and I know that Joe Smith Jr. always comes to fight and not just survive. BJS looked like one of the most unmotivated challengers I’ve seen in the last couple of years. If Pascal beats Jack I also wouldn’t mind him getting a shot at Canelo, since Pascal never gives a dull performance.
I think that Beterbiev, Bivol and Melikuziev can beat Canelo in 175, because they hit hard, have a good jaw and have the soviet boxing style.
Canelo has minimal experience at 175 and his fight with Kovalev was a blatant fix /sparring session. Anyone suggesting Canelo does anything at 175 is pure conjecture.
I'm surprised no one's brought up Artur's footwork and jab, but I know a lot of people are lessening Bivol's chances due to his performance against Richards recently ~
No one. Beterbiev only has a little puncher chance. Canelo is too skilled and fast for him. Canelo outboxes him 9/10. Bivol is the only threat for Canelo and his chance isn't more than 30%.
Some fighters (especially bigger fighters) give Canelo too much respect to an extent that they shut down their own offense because of fear of getting countered. Canelo is going to get his and probably hurt you anyways so you might as well throw to take him out too. I wanna see Joe Smith unload on him, and Beterbiev would give him one hell of a slug fest. Bivol is a threat too. Many awesome fights for Canelo at 175, but he did look slow and ploddish there against Kovalev. Power will be there though as his punches are picture book crisp.
good pick,Bivol got good defense and have a good jaw as seen in the Smith fight,he ate some hard shots.as for Beterbiev,well...iron chin, hit as hard as Kovalev maybe more and have unlimited tank so that sound like a nightmare for littlle ginger.
