Which loser experienced more of a robbery than a loss: Macklin or Mathysse?

matthysse for sure he won a close fight, you can make a case for sturm winning but its difficult for alexander.

 

Matthysse. He won clearly and was robbed blatantly. Second half of the fight DA got beat up.
Saying otherwise is to condone corruption in boxing.
I thought Macklin squeaked past Sturm but have no problem with the verdict as it was desperately close. The 116-112 cards were dodgy as **** though. There was nothing to seperate Macklin/Sturm.

Macklin just had a good run because he was clearly the busier fighter and Sturm didn't open up until the last part of the fight. (I believe he would have gotten the stoppage if he started from 7) There were a lot of clear Macklin rounds, and if you scored the tight rounds for Sturm a draw should have been the best the champ could have gotten if you really, really favour his style.

The Matthysse fight was tight on the score, but clear.
He had a knockdown round, and there were 3 other rounds that you never ever could give to Alexander no matter how big a nuthugger you are.
So all the other rounds were given to Devon by 2 of the 3 judges, and one even gave Devon one of the clear "Lucas rounds". :-(

So both were reasonably close, but both were clearly for the other fighter... Maybe Matthysse robbery is a little worse because of the KD and him beïng in command until the end, but scorewise they were just as bad.

 

Sturm-Macklin was a very close fight that could have gone either way depending on what you preferred - workrate or effective punching. Therefore you can't regard this as a "robbery".

Alexander-Matthysse, on the other hand, wasn't even close. That was a definite robbery.

 

Should have included Mike Dallas in the poll as well. The 98-92 scorecard might have actually been the worst of the weekend, although 96-93 for Alexander is hard to beat.

 

Boxing needs to go to 5 judges.

Just look at Harold's score card and give the two close rounds to Alexander. That has him winning the fight. At the end of the night, Mathysse left you with the thought that he won, but it was much closer than people give it credit for. Alexander clearly won the 2nd, 5th, and the 6th. Swing those close rounds Alexander's way and you have Alexander winning. Some people on ESB had Sturm winning, although it seemed to most that Macklin won a close but clear decision. Same for Alexander and Mathysse. (unfortunately, boxing is based on rounds. One or two swing rounds can change a fight)

 

A case can be made that Macklin sweeped every round up until the 7th round, Sturms workrate was appalling in the 1st half of the fight, the best he could hope for after that start was a draw.

macklin DID win the first seven. there can be no doubt.

 

Matthysse. Both got robbed but at least Macklin was in a close fight, Matthysse wasn't. I hope Mattysse fights here in the states again but I know it's discouraging for him to do that again considering he got robbed of his undefeated record here. He's still undefeated in my books.
