After seeing the Roy Jones beat the crabs out of Montell, during the rematch. That was Jones best performance, in my opinion I think when Roy is mad, mad. He was basically at his top-best. Were their any more matches that he was really angry?

He employed the same style and aggression against Frazier

Otherwise, Roy was happy usually to slowly pot shot and wear his opponent down. Even basically punching them into submission and watching them run away from him as he won a decision or late knock out.

That was Roy though. I think his wins in that way were just as good as an early KO.

His best two wins of his career, were against James Toney and Bernard Hopkins. Both unbeaten at the time.

He completely and utterly outskilled them. Boxing masterclass in both.

I recommend you watch both those fights too..This shows his greatness in my opinion, one of my favourite fighters ever.

In the Toney fight, go to 29:00 and watch what he does technically and look at the knock down. Unbelievable.

Hopkins wasn`t at his peak v Jones and British pundits said it was a boring fight and Lewis said shortly after that bout that he had heard a lot about Jones and was dissappointment after watching that fight v B-hop.

RJJ p4p was a better fighter then Lewis in his prime. Lewis was always bitter and jealous of other fighters when they received accolades.

Jones hadn`t recieved any accolades at that stage, he exploded on the scene when he beat Toney a an underdog, Hopkins wasn`t highly rated when Jones beat him.

RJJ gave Hopkins his only loss for 15 years, Hopkins being unknown does not mean he was not at peak Hopkins was a defensive minded fighter who led with his head, and just because British pundits were too stupid to see that Hopkins was a great defensive fighter doesn't hold much weight... Yes Jones humiliating Toney at the time it happened seemed bigger but to discount Hopkins who was by far more consistent in his career and without all the failed steroid tests like Toney is just ridiculous.

nobody looked good against b-hop until he was well into his 40's. nobody.
don't forget too that some british pundits would have had half an eye on defending their own (eubank, for example), especially since he wasn't about to cross the pond and challenge roy himself.
the germans also tried to downplay jones, but again, it's only because their home-grown 'talent' didn't want a piece of him.

B-hop wasn`t a spoiler at that time and only cracked the ring`s P4P top 10 after becoming more negative, he hadn`t been pro for 15 years by the time he fought Roy in `93:
Hopkins immediately joined the professional boxing ranks as a light heavyweight, losing his debut on October 11, 1988, in Atlantic City, New Jersey to Clinton Mitchell. After a sixteen-month layoff, he resumed his career as a middleweight, winning a unanimous decision over Greg Paige at the Blue Horizon on February 22, 1990.

Between February 1990 and December 1992, Hopkins scored 21 wins without a loss. He won 16 of those fights by knockout, 12 coming in the first round.

B-hop`s fights were not shown in the UK, the Jones figt ws his first fight televised in the UK and that was only because it was on the unddercard of the Bowe v Holy fight, this was also UK` fight fans first real taste of Roy, only a coupe of his bouts had been shown on a small British boxing TV program called ringside up to that point and that show did not have a large audience, I don`t think Benn and Eubank really had B-hop on their raydar at that point because both of them had moved up to 168 and were drawing far bigger ratings than B-hop or Jones were at that point, neither fighter was a big star at that stage.

hopkins and jones definitely weren't PPV stars, but they were the best fighters in the world.
it's no coincidence the best euro fighters from MW to LHW avoided the US at that time.
