From the fans point of view we are all sick of these alphabet titles but look at it from the Boxers point of view. A C-level fighter has a chance of winning a world title and wearing his shiny belt with pride whilst shouting from the top of his lungs I AM THE CHAMPION OF THE WORLD!!!!! Everyone be honest. If you won a IBO, WBU, IBC or WBF belt today, would you not be proud and show of your shiny new belt talking about how your champion of the world? You could make history and be the first to unify all the meaningless belts and make 20 defences against unheard of opponents.
Well to be fair, when young guys are on the way up, I'd imagine it's quite nice to win straps, hell even starting with the NABO, NABF, or whatever, and the common wealth ones you guys fight for. ****, that means your on the right track, and unless you were an Olympic Medalist who will have the path to the big time served on a platter, I would be proud. **** it.
:good right on. We concentrate our conversations on the very upper eschelons of the sport on here, but imagine coming up an unknown, getting hold of one of those type belts. Like you say Sir, Recognition.
You know, honestly I do too. And other than in some cases where a relative unknown may hold the strap, their Rankings look like a P4P list in each division. Beats the hell out of any of the ABC's top 10 rankings all day.
The NABF... good supportable rankings, and a great belt for mid-level guys on the way up. Every other sanctioning body is ridiculous.
I understand your point, but what if your name is not Amir Khan, Jermain Taylor, or just a relatively unknown having to work like hell to get anything, it would be a good place to start? No? **However, bro, I really don't know **** about the WBF belt, their rankings, etc... Is it truly a joke??
Yea. They tend to most of the time give the belt to the right champion. Sometimes they go with lower class guys but its all good.
The IBO rankings aren't too bad, I think they have some decent champions. I like the WBU though because it gives an opportunity for Brits to win some sort of title, even if not recognized as an actual world title. It's usually British guys that pick these things up.
Dont get me wrong I am not anti alphabet titles in fact I like them. If I was WBU champion of the world I would be very happy.
