Yeah, I like Witter, I think his career could have been managed a LOT better than it has, but on his day, he is a great fighter, and a great guy. I support most of the fighters out of the Sheffield area also.
So are you saying that in 1996 Winky Wright and Bronco McKart had no credibility, or are you just saying that Winky's 5 defenses were meaningless? Wait --- maybe you're just saying that in the annals of boxing history Fulgencio Zuniga's illustrious IBO title reign at 168 was more important than Winky's title reign. Which is it?
I am worried about Junior being to inactive and I think his promoter takes to much time to arrange good fights for most of his top fighters in general.
Witter has been too inactive for the past five years, hardly a new thing. He is a mass of contradictions - one minute slating Hatton for his choice of comeback opponent, then fighting a total pudding himself. He should have been straight into Bradley demanding a rematch. Offering to take short money and fight in his back yard, the lot. It's not beyond the realms of possibility that Witter could beat Bradley, is it?
Agreed. At this point Junior needs to be fighting as much as possible, to get back into the frame for a world title shot (I think he isn't far off), but he has such a difficult style, no one wants to fight Witter.
Agreed I think a boxer should be prepared to make a sacrifice to put him self in a position to win a world title.
I agree with this part. Junior doesn't like to leave his comfort zone. His career has just gone sideways for too long now. Nothing or no one has pushed him forward. That was always the problem, and still is.
I don't think it is a case of making sacrifices, after all he took on Zab Judah on 9 days notice when Zab was highly touted and Witter was a 15 fight novice. The 15 fights were against bums pretty much as well. I just think he has been badly advised several times along the way by somebody..... can't put a finger on who though, because the Ingle's gym is much more than a boxing club, they tend to fix people that have serious issues as well.
If Hatton has the balls to demand a rematch against Floyd having been whipped, even if it was delusional, he still did it. Witter lost a close-ish split decision (should have been UD against, but anyways....) so he ought to have been demanding a return. He would probably have gotten one as well.
Do you know if there was any moves from Witter or his camp to make this actually happen? If not, that would surprise me.
IBO has a change to rise at level of the 4 major sanction. Just look at IBO champions: they have W.Klitschko, Dawson, Hatton, Juan Diaz and Donaire atm. And former champions like Roy Jones Jr. and Lennox Lewis.
This is my point. I am worried that the IBO is gaining credibility with big names representing the brand.
At the time, Hennessy was all hot air. Had Witter lost to Bradley last week, the rematch would already be signed.
I have been told the IBO rankings are generated by computer so I would expect these to be the most flawed like boxrec rankings.
