I do think that Gene Fullmer would have beaten GGG....and I'm not picking a whole cast of characters from former middleweight champs to pull off that trick as well, aside from the obvious SRR, Monzon, Hagler, Tiger, Giardello, Griffith and just a very few more.
Fullmer was a bullishly strong, painfully awkward, legit tough guy who wasn't as crude and one dimensional as he's been misadvertised. He showed vs Lausse, though he was decked and lost (a rematch I believe would have been different), Fernandez, fighting in the last few rounds with a broken albow, and in the draw rematch with Tiger that he had a Plan B, which he used to perfection vs Basilio twice. I think that he would have mauled his way to a narrow split decision vs GGG, using plenty of his Plan B strategy along the way and toughing it out with whatever Golovkin were to dish out. Fragile Gene Fullmer was not.

In the glory days of boxing from the 1920s to the 1950s or so, there were 8 boxing divisions. A middleweight fought from 148 pounds to 160 pounds for a title match. So when a fighter couldn't make the welterweight 147 pounds he had to fight as a Mw at about 153 pounds or so...They were trained to tackle heavier men up to 160 pounds in a MW title shot those days. For Canelo to quibble about not fighting GGG until he gets to 152 or thereabouts tells me he
fears GGG and is making an excuse not to fight him...No iffs or butts...
No one could for certain tell how GGG would do against the all-time great middleweights ? My hunch based on my intuition tells me he would be a damn threat to any MW of yesterday at 160 lbs, and if a Hagler would appear today from another country at age 30, unknown to boxing fans in America, and fought the same opponents as GGG has, wouldn't some doubters be uttering this tired question "well he's OK but look at his opposition " ???.
P.S. I as an "oldtimer " have been accused of sheer nostalgia when I claim the 1940s fighters were because of the sheer number of fighters in America, were for the most part greater than todays fighters. Nostalgia, I suffer from they
utter. But when I claim that a triple GGG, based an what I see time and again
fits in very nicely with any group of past middleweights, the same doubters say "who did he ever beat" ? OH WELL....

I will research. There is a chance I mixed up Froch with Bute. If that is the case, apologies. I will highlight good pros that GGG beat in the amateurs.

2000 won the Junior World Championships in Budapest, Hungary as a Light Welterweight. Results were:

Defeated Hao Yen Kuo (Chinese Taipei) RSC-3
Defeated Alexander Renz (Germany) PTS (26-7)
Defeated Benjamin Kalinovic (Croatia) PTS (21-10)
Defeated Evgeni Putilov (Russia) PTS (24-10)
Defeated Maikel Perez (Cuba) PTS (30-17)

2002 won the Asian Games in Busan, South Korea as a Light Middleweight. Results were:

    Defeated Abdullah Shekib (Afghanistan) AB-1
    Defeated Nagimeldin Adam (Qatar) RSCO-1
Defeated Song In Joon (South Korea) PTS (18-12)
    Defeated Suriya Prasathinpimai (Thailand) RSCO-3

2003 won the World Championships in Bangkok, Thailand as a Middleweight. Results were:

Defeated Matvey Korobov (Russia) PTS (19-10)
Defeated Andy Lee (Ireland) PTS (29-9)
    Defeated Lucian Bute (Romania) KO-4
Defeated Yordanis Despaigne (Cuba) PTS (29-26)
    Defeated Oleg Mashkin (Ukraine) RSCI-2

2004 Middleweight Olympic Silver Medalist as a member of the Kazakhstani Olympic Team. His results were:
Defeated Ali Ahmed Khan (****stan) 31-10
    Defeated Ramadan Yasser (Egypt) 31-20
    Defeated Andre Dirrell (U.S.) 23-18
Lost to Gaydarbek Gaydarbekov (Russia) 18-28

I thought that Murray hurt him with body shots. Golovkin seems to have a great chin, but what if he had a Zale, Robinson or even Hearns banging him to the body?

I rate Golovkin, and have been impressed with him from day one, but he hasn't even beaten anyone as good as Benn, Eubank, or Briscoe.

Talk of him beating Monzon, Hagler or Robinson is premature.

The disconnect here is a legacy should not be the only determining factor in picking a winner in a fantasy fight.

As I stated before all time greats had their hand full with GGG level oppoents, but GGG himself did not.

Few could take GGG's power, and few would outbox him. Few could also hurt him. When you have that triple, you're very difficult to beat.

Robinson gets hit a lot and his best stuff is at welter. Hearns, too fragile again best at welter.

Benn, Eubank, or Briscoe are more accomplished, but that doesn't mean better based on our eyes. I'd pick GGG to beat all three though no fight would be easy.

Monzon and Hagler would be a fight.

You can see there's no overlap between their amateur careers, when Froch turned pro in 2002 GGG wasn't even a middleweight yet.

Envy of your power and influence fuels the resentment of your critics. Your championing of GGG gives him formidable credibility, considering your historical frame of contextual reference, and lack of jingoism in advocating for a Kazakhstani.

You're :bowdownBurt Bienstock! Your praise is the reason I even know who GGG is. On your word alone, I take him as a serious entity in this second decade of the 21st Century, and he seems dominant enough to conclude the next four years with secured status as the fighter of this decade.

(;)Just remember :bowdown Burt. With over half a dozen years wielding great power and influence here, you have also accumulated great responsibility. Continue to use it wisely!:thumbsup)

A, thank you for your kind sentiments. I try hard to weigh my opinions about boxing not through sentiment, but to careful observation and deep thought, for I have loved boxing since I was a tot and my parents lived next door to a trainer of the great John Henry Lewis...I owe so much to the multitudes of brave fighters I have seen all these decades to take their deeds lightly, and I try to reflect my love of their deeds when I give my opinions, based solely on their ability's as I saw them. Thanks again Anubis. I appreciate it...

3g is still in single figures for world title defences, that IBO and regular shyte counts for little.

he has about 6 but can easily make double figures.

I am not sure why guys bother with making "regular" defences when they aren't for the actual title, what a waste of time when they could have been doing it for real in some of their cases. 3G has been held back.

Golovkin would have had a good deal more under his belt if Sturm had faced him like he should have ...
