To beat Floyd?:think From a stylistic point of view.

I'm really not sure. The obvious answer(s) might be a combination of his best moment's against Zab and Mosley, but that's too simplistic.
For me Miguel's box office years were at 140,and he became less exciting but far more competent when he moved up.
I remember the only time I ever really didn't root for him was the first Margarito fight, but that was only because I had followed Margarito for a while and wanted him to get a break.:patsch
But his performance in the first five rounds was breathtaking to me.I really didn't think he had that in his game, but it's useless against someone who's not all about coming forward.
What I'm really trying to say is I'm not sure how he pulls this off,but I'd like to hear arguments for him to win.:good

cotto is going to have to go above and beyond anything he has ever done in his career to beat floyd.

I think the Cotto that beat Judah will be best suited to beat Floyd. A combination of calculated aggression and boxing. Cotto really dug Judah to the body well in that fight. Cotto was the aggressor and will have to do the same in this fight. I dont see how Cotto can beat Floyd in an all out chess/boxing match.

His best moments that night are the nearest thing to having a chance he has.
But it just won't be enough IMO

The kelson pinto fight. And the one against that italian guy can't think of his name. he went to the body with hooks relentlessly and he needs to do that again. Seemed like when he moved to 147 he went to the body less and less. And after he fought margarito another body puncher it was no longer in his arsenal except for yuri foreman.

If Floyd does not carry the same speed at 154 and at age 35, than Cotto's chances really increase. Floyd's legs would need to be as fast as ever to humble the older version of Cotto. If that Cotto still exists?

In the case you've suggested he would need to pull off a more complete performance in the same style Oscar did.Maybe four years ago,but I think Miguel has lost more of his sharpness than Floyd has,and he's far more battle-weary too.

Shane Mosley.....Cotto will have to punch at every opportunity with accuracy.
Body shots as he did against Quintana and Branco busting his arms and chest.
Lateral movement as he did against Margaret II with tight foot movement and tighter guard.
Lead rights as he did against Torres.

A shot South of the Border as he did against Judah for good measure!!!:D

The early going vs Pac minus hitting the deck, the Judah fight where he handled the speed and reflexes and over came a faster guy by breaking him down also took bombs doing it

probably the fight he most wants to re enact would be Mosley

I believe it's the Carlos Quintana fight. And I'll tell you why. If you closely watch how Quintana was constantly trying to set him up with counters, utilizing his jab and changing the angle when he got close to the ropes, most guys he would of beatin.(like he did Paul Williams the first time) But Cotto kept the pressure on him, kept his jab busy, never got off balance and also he controled the center of the ring very well in that fight. If Cotto replicates that, with a much higher punchout put(which I believe Diaz is gonna have him do by throwing more punches than he's done in the past) he shocks everyone IMO. I think the Quintana fight is one of Miguel Cotto's most underrated performances in his career.

yes, well at 154 he may not be the bruiser he once was breaking body parts and re arranging faces (Margs was ready to collapse pre fight)

He has power, and even if Floyd blocks these shots they are still gonna hurt

he has to get leather on Mayweather and early, get the respect right away and let Floyd know he is in a fight

I agree and its sad cause i think since Gomez and on he hits the body way less

He needs to set the tone early by landing early but the hardest part vs Floyd is doing this past the 4th round

if cotto can land a decent amount of leather in the second half he can be interesting

I don't know why, but for some reason I see Floyd getting hit with a big straight right from Cotto. It's not his money punch and most believe he is only a left handed fighter, so I think this added wrinkle will be displayed on fight night.

As far as any of his past fights to replicate, I would say maybe the first 4-5 rounds of the Mosley fight. He got to a point where you knew Mosley was about to be in trouble, but Shane adjusted, causing Cotto to adjust as well and take him out of the seek and destroy mode. In those first rounds, Cotto boxed very well and made Mosley miss and pay for it.
