i heard duran simply just crapped himself,,, like literally,,, thats quite possible when u take into account how much weight these fighters were shedding then the day of the fight eating like animals to rehydrate etc,,, and i mean come on no matter how much of a warrior u are no ones gonna continue fighting with crapped pants seriously,,, umm i thought this theory was totally ridiculous at first but when u think about it ,,, physically,, its totally possible,,, ( ive got an upset stomach right now so i know how he would feel lol ) anyway i think duran getting blown away by hearns was the most unexpected out of those results.

I didn't live through them either but looking back in retrospect I think there may have been surprises in most of the fights.

Hearns-Duran is pretty obvious. Duran had been down twice in 70 odd fights yet 2 rounds into this he was splattered all over the canvas. Thank god he was ok, brutal.

 

I can only comment on "No Mas" in retrospect, as I didn't get into boxing until '83, but of tose I was "around" for, it had to be Leonard-Hagler. At the time, there was none of this "Hagler is shot" talk we now speak of with all this benefit of hindsight. That wasn't talked about back then. Many scoffed at the idea of Leonard beating Hagler so far removed from his known weight classes and the hugely long layoff. It more like an oddity than a serious boxing match in that way. No one I can remember gave Leonard a chance in hell. It wasn't like Rooster tells it, that's for sure.

So yeah, that was jaw dropping. That's an easy winner for me.

 

Hearns KO'ing Duran in 2, i was left traumatised, my whole world just collapsed about me, sat there with 4 rusty tins of skol lager nicked from the back of the local ****stanee run corner shop,i'd been on the dole for 18 months & had just got the electric back on, I became a zombie! I was the walking dead!

 

Hearns just found the range and Duran got caught cold, the way he lost was a shocker, the next would be Duran quitting in Leonard 2, I did live it and was a big Duran fan. I favored him over Ali and saw then both fight live and early in their careers onward. There was a story about Duran from the boxing insiders that after a fight he went crazy drinking and partying and coking after Leonard 1 he was hanging out at Victor's Spanish cafe in NYC, at the time it was a heavy South American drug (cocaine) hangout...Angelo Dundee knew this and insisted on a November fight with the knowledge that there was no way Duran could lose the weight and gain the muscle in a quick rematch, Duran could not make the Leonard kind of money with anyone else and Dundee said he would give Hearns the rematch....Duran bit and fell into the Dundee trap...for Hearns Duran was still not his best but also misjudged the length of Hearns RIGHT and he leaned his head back and caught the right hand flush....goes to show you anyone can be KO'd, we saw it again last weekend with Pac man

 

the fight which surprised me the most was why Hearns decided to brawl with Hagler. On that night they said it was a great fight, but I was thinking Hearns career might be over. As it turned out one fight is not the end of any great fighters career. it is just part of their story. Pacman will fight again and win just like all the others did.

 

I think Hagler cautiously descisioning Duran. An all time great Middleweight should be blowing away a blown up Lightweight no matter how great Duran was.
