Just a guess -- Modernity + size are probably the key factors. Either you can imagine a smallish, 1920s-1950s heavyweight being able to hang with 90s guys, or you can't. Styles are secondary at that point.

It's a bit like asking about whether Robinson, Hagler, or Monzon could take on a good 90s cruiserweight. Answers will cluster around how people believe the weight gap affects the matchup. Especially because it's the biggest unknown.

For me, Ibeabuchi’s level is unknown. He could be the second best of his time behind Lewis or he might’ve been destined to lose to Kirk Johnson and a bunch of guys in between.

He didn’t take the fight with Grant and that would’ve given a lot more info.

Most likely Ibeabuchi would win. But Grant is underrated because his career fell apart and Ibeabuchi is overrated and because he went away before losing. Ibeabuchi would be fighting someone with range, power, and size for the first time.

I agree Ibeabuchi is ocerrated but guys with his type of career that have their careers cut short in their prime will always get overrated.
Like guys with shaky whiskers will always be underrated.I expect to see this with Amir Khan in the coming years.
But there is no way possible uncoordinated Grant stands a chance with Ibeabuchi.None.

Then again John Tate and Cooney would be ATGs if they’d retired at the correct moment.
