    Johnson at 3 :patsch

I just love the fact that Strongback keeps saying **** like 'you're opinions MUST be right' (sarcastically) before countering with 'I know people with a different opinion'. Even with his fantastic avatar I'm losing patience with him.

You called me string ach and a mong before I had to defend myself.

Off home now but I'll look at a 20-40 list and see if theres a spot for Big Vitali. ;)

Well he has Jack Dempsey over Lennox Lewis over Evander Holyfield so if you want to follow him because he's a professional or whatever then more fool you.

Where's you sense of humour. I'm going to start calling you Brainy.

OK I've done 20-30. I don't think there is much point in going further. I didn't examine it too closely in terms of the order, just took a flier at it really. The names are there about's.

    21. BOB FITZSIMMONS
    22. HARRY WILLS
    23. KEN NORTON
    24. FLOYD PATTERSON
    25. SAM *******
    26. JOE JEANNETTE
    27. MICHAEL SPINKS
    28. MAX BAER
    29. JACK SHARKEY
    30. ERNIE TERRELL

I don't see any problem whatsoever with Vitali fitting in around the top of this list.

Cox's is into the old timers and most of them rate Dempsey very highly as they do Johnson.

The problem with Lennox is he lacks a career defining win and got sparked twice by fighters that weren't in his class. This is enough for some to mark him down.

Personally I would also have Marciano a bit higher but he's lost a bit of his popularity in recent years.

Here's the IBRO list also written by old timers like Tracy Callis for a comparison. You'll like this list even more.

    1. Joe Louis
    2. Muhammad Ali
    3. Jack Johnson
    4. Jack Dempsey
    5. Rocky Marciano
    6. Larry Holmes
    7.James J. Jeffries
    8. George Foreman
    9. Sonny Liston
    10. Joe Frazier
    11. Gene Tunney
    12. Lennox Lewis
    13. Mike Tyson
    14. Evander Holyfield
    15. Sam Langford
    16. Jersey Joe Walcott
    17. Ezzard Charles
    18. Harry Wills
    19. James J. Corbett
    20. Bob Fitzsimmons

Just missing the cut: Riddick Bowe, Max Schmeling, Joe Jeannette, Peter Jackson, John L. Sullivan, George Godfrey, Max Baer, Ken Norton, Sam McVey and Jack Sharkey.

Let's be honest his body of work is utterly woeful and he's looked like crap since his comeback.

I'm not saying he's up there with the true greats but looking at the HW division there just aren't that many great heavies. It would be easy enough to pick apart the record of some of the guys at around the 20-25 mark. Hell its not that hard to pick apart any fighters record.

Those guys have far better resumes at the weight.
