That's why heavyweights are generally lower on P4P list

Agreed. It’s hard to split Tunney & Dempsey though.

I found it easy as Dempsey is miiiiiiiiiiiiles ahead. Heavyweights not names Ali and Louis struggle in P4P rankings. Spinks is well ahead of Holmes as well. His wins over EMM and Qawi cover any two wins of Holmes before we even get into his winning the heavyweight title as well against none other than Holmes.

Tunney, Louis and the third ones a really tough one for me.

Any case for Ezzard over Louis depends on his incredibly overrated LHW tenure where he got destroyed in his biggest fight by Jimmy Bivins. I do not believe HWs should be punished for not fighting at LHW in boxing. P4P was not made to elevate HWs who fought at LHW over ones who didn't it was made to elevate fighters who would be better than a HW if they were equal sized.

Charles avenged his sole defeat to Bivins, which was when he was a 21 year old kid.

His biggest LHW fights were vs the consensus top 2 all time LHW Archie Moore, who he went 3-0 against, winning one by KO and another by a shut out/near shut out decision.

That's terrible on so many levels. Tho he had some good wins pre-war Charles never matured as a fighter until after the war. He was an underdeveloped 21yo when he fought Bivins and the fight was anything but his biggest fight at 175. How on earth would you even begin to think that? Bivins was 174 1'2 while Charles weighed in at 165. When a physically matured Charles came back post war he put multiple whoopings on Bivins including two occasions while giving up 10 or more pounds.

As for an incredibly overrated 175 tenure he put three losses on Archie Moores record all at 175. That in itself is hard to overrate.

They aren't punished, light heavyweights are elevated by adding to their resume at heavy. It's a simple concept.

It is what we make it. Some light heavyweights did actually beat the heavyweight champs.

I think i'm going to change my pick to Spinks now i've thought about it Holmes never unified unlike Spinks at Light Heavyweight, and Spinks had significantly better wins at his weight Dwight Muhammad Qawi, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, Marvin Johnson, Yaqui Lopez, who are 4 of the most prominent Light Heavyweights of that era outside of Matthew Saad Muhammad.

Add to the fact that Spinks also has the achievement of moving up in weight and dethroning Holmes......Yeah it's quite clear to me now.

    So my new list is.......

    Tunney
    Charles
    Spinks

    Huh????

Charles had only recently moved up from MW to LHW for the 1st Bivins fights. He was still ranked as a MW a few months before that fight.

His run from '46 through the end of '48 might be THE greatest anyone has ever had @ LHW.
