Marciano physically stronger than him? Nah

How do you figure? They were comparable in size and Marciano has a more athletic background. His inhuman strength has been commented on by his opponents. Moore called him the strongest man he ever fought, and commented that he was stronger than Frazier

He could and most likely would beat Norton in a war, but it wouldn't be easy.
Dempsey savagely blasts him out mid rounds
Tunney would control the fight to a UD or late stoppage
Marciano breaks him down to a mid round KO
Louis goes Louis mode on him and stops him halfway through

I would pick him over all of them with the possible exception of Norton. He had a difficult style.

Louis has the hand speed, KO power and skill to throw a combination at any time to end a fight with anyone. He can never be undersold. That being said Johnson at his best beats them all.

Best chance would be against Norton, but I'd still favor Norton to win by knock out.

Stamina, maybe though even old out of shape Jack showed a lot of stamina against Willard.

Physical strength? No way, I've never seen Rocky manhandling someone as big as Frank Moran with such an ease as Johnson. He pushed 210 lbs man like a little child, almost like what Foreman did to Frazier. He more than hold his own against Jeffries who was also very big and strong before he got tired.

Rocky was very agressive and had strong legs, so he wasn't easy to push around. He never showed that kind of strength Johnson did in some footage though, even against Moore.

Also, Johnson was bigger than Marciano at his peak. Look at him against Jeffries - he was bigger than Walcott who was bigger than Marciano (though not by much). It doesn't matter here, as Rocky loved fighting bigger boxers. I just wanted to correct it.

I can see him beating all of them but he could also lose to all of them.

Norton likely wouldn't beat him because Johnson wasn't typical boxer and he didn't mind playing dirty inside. Norton was very good body puncher though, which might be interesting to see against Jack.

Tunney isn't proven enough at heavyweight. He's tough and very fast but Johnson wouldn't box with him, he would go inside all day. Johnson had very fast hands himself and I doubt Tunney's jab would bother him that much, though we'll never know.

As I said, under his own rules I see Johnson beating Marciano. With bigger gloves it would be tougher though, Rocky was a monster.

Dempsey was faster than Marciano which could give him edge, but I'd still bet on Jack Johnson. Even though past his prime, he was shockingly easy to tie up against Tunney in their second fight. Outside of something very big landing on Johnson, I also see losing effort here.

Joe Louis overcame so many different styled that I can't bet against him. Jack Johnson would be probably better than any fighter he fought against, so it's impossible to be sure. Jack was also very crafty and he could punish Louis for his weaknesses.

Under the rules stipulated ,[which several seem to have disregarded],I think Johnson beats Norton,Tunney, and Dempsey, Marciano,I cant make a decision about Louis. None of these fights would be clear cut with exception of the Marciano one who I think is stylistically a gift for Jack, though he may get floored along the way.I would expect Johnson to rip uppercuts into Rocky's face and contain him inside with his powerful hands, and I totally disagree that Marciano was stronger than Johnson.Stamina? Did Rocky ever go 26 rd against a giant at the age of 37? No Rocky gets stopped on a tko from cuts.. I have to say I'm not so big on Rocky as some, so I won't pretend that if he can manage to land on Jack with some regularity he doesn't have a chance to put him on ***** street and take him out.
Dempsey would be very dangerous because of his handspeed and short punches inside, and Johnson would have to weather some hairy moments early on,but ,as the fight progresses he would gradually begin to dictate terms. If he can stay clear of that left hook!
Tunney would also be difficult because of his mobility and Johnson would have to make the fight, which he never liked to do,I give this to Johnson because he is more proven at heavyweight ,but its certainly no easy match up for him.
Norton would lose a close decision under the older rule set, under modern rules ,which this isn't. he may well take it on his aggression.
Louis probably wins this because he was the most complete fighter of those listed, he was an all time great combination hitter and a very good boxer who had a terrifc jab, both assets that Johnson rarely faced. So Louis is the most dangerous with Dempsey being just as dangerous for the first half of the fight.I'd add that I'd sooner watch any of his opponents than sit through a Johnson bout especially one in which he is in no danger.

Johnson did beat McVea. Did Rocky ever fight someone that strong?

Over 20 rounds I'd pick him to beat Norton, Dempsey and Tunney

He gets Knocked out by both Louis and Rocky imo

Over 12 I'd favour all of them but Norton

I think he has better than even shots against Dempsey and Marciano .. I even like him against Louis .. Tunney may outpoint him in a better version of O'Brien's performance and Norton, with his size, jab, speed and overall game may be as puzzling to him as he was to Ali and Holmes.
