As I said in the initial post This content is protected meaning none of them grew up with a silver spoon in thier mouth, but in some places it's rougher than others. The other 4 boxers on that list were born in the richest and supposedly most advanced country in the world. I realise the States has poverty and none of those guys came up easy, (what about Floyd?). There are safety nets of some form in western developed countries food stamps, medicare acccess to a good basic education, goverment housing, water, sewers etc. All the above may sound like a **** tough life to you, but try a 3rd world country where there is no saftey net at all, no government help or welfare programs, a lack of education and no access to medical help, no governmant supplied houseing etc. etc. No sense of entitlement as in the west. Pretty tough way to come up in my books and for the record I'm not a *******, I like and respect both Floyd and Pac, they are both great for different reasons. Have you ever been to any parts of S.E.Asia?
It´s different......being poor in poor countries is way tougher than being poor in rich countries.....especially when this country is rich in Boxing....
Turbo, no offence mate but exactly who are you to question my passion, understanding and dedication to the sport? Are you calling me a fake boxing fan? I'd say it has quite alot to do with boxing, alot more than 1%. The psyche of the fighters are very different, and you can't seperate that from why and how a fighter fights. In quite a few S.E.Asian countries your career path can be set if you show promise at any venture that may bring money into a family, at an age before most westerners are even aware what work is. In other words many 3rd world boxing careers are set by circumstance over desire by people who have some form of control over you, different to most western boxers experiences, who first stepped in a gym out of choice, peer preassue or a dad that wanted to toughen up his son, most didn't step in that gym the first time with the preassure to make money.
I voted Jones even though having seen many Pernell fights since Azumah nelson, J L Ramirez II and JCC in san Antonio, JCV at LMW, I perfectly understand the results of the pool. My favourite of them all is Bernard but having seen the great LHWTs of the recent past like Marvin Johnson, Mtthew Saad Muhammad, Eddie Mustafa Muhammad, yaqui Lopez, Rossman, Dwight Muhammad Qawi and Michael Spinks, he doesn't seem nothing special exception made for having won two titles and being the oldest to ever won it. He's basically the best MW I got to know. It doesn't surprise me that Manny and Floyd are tied in the pool and they both are going to the HOF but they will just get ahead of each other for real once the fight happens.
again, you are right..but to a certain extent...when ranking how great a guy is...nothing before his 1st pro fight should matter, if he was poor or rich, born in America or the Phillipines. You do have a point, but if Manny was born into such a poor neighborhood and I ranked him 45 on my ATG list, Its not like im moving him down to 49 if I found out it was all a lie and he grew up wealthy
