    I'd pick Holmes to outpoint him pretty easily but maybe Holmes' people knew something I don't...

    This post is pretty much spot on. Willard was enormous for his era and could take a good punch. But his defense was horrible and his footwork was non existent. His chief claim to fame was showing how hard Dempsey could punch. In addition his speed was best described as "meh" even if he could hit hard. Sanders would make him look mummified.

    These modern heavyweights are technically streets ahead and moreover within spitting distance of his weight. What's more these guys can really crack hard. Rahman for example would give him flashbacks of Jack's rampage. Willard's best hope against them is exactly what McGrain said: try to tank the punches, maul, turn it into a wrestling match and wear them out late. It might work if they have an off night but jfc, he'd look a mess by the end. Realistically Willard would lose against most, if not all of them.
