    round?

    Ali
    Foreman
    Holyfield
    Tyson
    Bowe
    Holmes
    Tua
    McCall

Infact could you put them in order from the person you would be shocked the most if they were stopped in the first round please.

And you could name some more heavyweights who are durable and would be shocked if they were bombed out in 1 round. ( As usually don't mention Jack Dempsey or Rocky Marciano. I mean true 200 plus pound heavyweights.)

I think Ali, Holmes, and Holyfield would all be equally shocking. I can't imagine Christ almighty beating any of those men in one round.

    1. Muhammad Ali being taken out in one round would be the biggest shock .

    2. Then Holmes, Holyfield, Foreman and Bowe would be almost as shocking.

    3. Then Tyson, Tua and McCall would be big shocks too.

Thanks for the responses so far, but Holmes was knocked out early by Tyson. Sure Holmes was past his prime at that point but it showed he could be hurt early. Holmes was also hurt by 1 punch by guys like Shavers and Snipes.

I would be most shocked to see Foreman or Ali being stopped period never mind in 1 round.

The only one of that list that i could see being stopped in 1 is Foreman, but that would still be extremely unlikely.

Right Chris, Foreman was stopped only 1 time in 81 fights and he was stopped by fatigue but you could see him being stopped in 1 round. Not to bright are you? Tyson was stopped 5 times in his career, which is more than anybody on that list. If anything Tyson would the only person I wouldnt be shocked to see knocked out in 1 round.

Lyle certainly proved that this was not theoretically impossible. George himself admitted that Cooney hurt him early.

We're discussing degrees of possibility here with a very challenging list, one which mandates some straw grasping. Holmes and Ali did get flattened with a single punch more than once. What if Cooper's knockdown of Ali had taken place early in round one?

McCall's mental issues are what might make him a candidate for such a quick elimination. Louis and Liston could have made him **** his pants at the opening bell.

I've always believed that Foreman would have starched Tyson quickly.

Tua, Bowe and Holyfield are left. As an amateur, Tua was stopped in one by Felix Savon. It's a flimsy pretext for eliminating Tua as a candidate, but this list doesn't allow for much more than that.

Resorting again to drafty amateur cover, Lennox did record a second round stoppage over Bowe in the Olympics, showing that quick success was possible against Big Daddy. (Not having seen it, I lack the context to interpret this outcome beyond the record itself.)

Bert Cooper dropped Holyfield in round three, but even then Evander grabbed the top rope to try keeping his feet.

With more research, consideration, and further reasoning, I might drastically and completely change these initial impressions. I'm just trying to provoke further analysis and discussion of an extremely difficult selection process.

but never in one round. tyson could take punch for sure. just look at the fights he lost how much tyson took.
ali would be the most shocking to me
then foreman, tyson and liston (why is he not on the list ?)
then comes the rest, holmes, bowe and so on

I could see Foreman being stopped in one round. Liston would certainly knock him out early.

Tyson was still stopped period, stop making excuses for him. Douglas wasnt known for being a big puncher and he stopped Tyson, A washed up Holyfield stopped Tyson while the prime Holyfield couldnt knockout a fat past his prime Foreman. Lennox Lewis toyed with Tyson and could of knocked him out early. Lewis couldnt even hurt a washed up Holyfield with his power. Both Danny Williams and Kevin McBride are 3rd tier fighters, you can say Tyson was past his prime but so was George Foreman during his comeback and he was never knocked down.

You bring up Lyle dropping Foreman to show that Foreman could be stopped early? Well Henry Cooper almost knocked out Ali with one punch. Cooper weighed about 190 and Lyle weighed about 225. Being knocked down by Lyle or Cooper more embarassing? If anything it just shows how hard Lyle could punch when the target stood right infront of him.

Ali was knocked down numerous times with 1 punch in his career and hurt numerous times more by 1 punch but I still couldnt imagine him being iced in 1 round. Ali could be hurt easily but he could recover quicker than any heavyweight champion in boxing history.

Liston was knocked out in the first round already so why put him on the list? You could say that fight was a set up or Liston was old but the point is still he was knocked out in 1 round. Liston's best wins came over Floyd Patterson a super middleweight and the higly overrated Cleveland Williams. If he would of faced the Fraziers, Lyles, and Holyfields he would of been knocked out more times.

Tua was KO'd in one in the amateurs so I wouldn't be that surprised to see it happen.

The only way I see McCall being stopped in one is if he stops fighting himself as he did against Lewis.

If Holyfield keeps fighting, it could very well happen.

I would say Tyson & I say that for two reasons.

Firstly, Tyson was a fast starter so in order for him to be KO'd in a round whoever his opponent is would have to start equally as fast!

Secondly, it was Tyson's forte sort of thing, KO'ing guys in a round, so for it to happen to him would be a complete role reversal!
