Carlos Monzon Marvin Hagler Bernard Hopkins Forget who's the greatest overall. Who had the best all round skill set - Boxing defence , power, ring IQ, adaptability , inside fighting and stamina?
Hagler was the most complete fighter out of the 3 IMO. Had everything in his arsenal. Perhaps the most well rounded versatile MW ever.
I agree with the Hagler choice. I think. He had the physicality, mindset, skills, enough power to do the job, pretty much everything. Monzon was probably greater, but calling him complete seems odd to me. He was a professional nullifier. He quelled an opponent’s offense and then surgically went after him once sufficiently weakened. I guess one could well argue that this defines completeness. They might be right. Dunno. Hopkins is an interesting case because early on he steamrolled guys with power and a hunter’s mentality. Later on, as age started tapping on his door, he lay back and set clever traps, showing great ring acumen and natural intelligence, but the problem is that he exhibited these two divergent paths at different times in his career. Put those two stylistic halves together and you have an animal of a different breed but because of that, it’s hard to classify him.
All that definitely. Marvin was so versatile ,he wasn't just a pressure fighter with a great chin and heavy Against a boxer he could cut off the ring and work his way inside. Again a puncher he could counter and make the opponent work. Against a mover he was excellent at cutting off the ring rather than just chasing him. And he could fight southpaw or orthodox. Man was tough to beat!!
Whew! In my mind I can't pick a clear cut winner as to who's the most complete fighter as they all have good traits... Perhaps a list of qualities can be used in a poll question. Boxing ability, power who has the best jab, best defensive fighter among the 3.
Bernard Hopkins could do whatever it takes on any given nite. He had all the tools but his mind was his best asset.
