Which one is more annoying? jab-and-grab or lay-and-pray?

We have a mixed boxing/mma audience here, I would like to hear opinions on this issue.

The heavy divisions have never been a showcase for fighting techniques, at least compared to the lower ones. Stalling the fight seems to be the dominant skill.

So, what do you find more annoying: jab-and-grab perfected by the klitschkos (lewis before them) or lay-and-pray, couture style?

I prefer a ground game to hugging, but there's nothing more boring than someone who's not actively trying to pass guard.

I think Randy was relatively active tbh not the worst example of lay n pray anyway and he mostly worked off the cage in the clinch

The klits are not the worst jab-and-grabbers either, off top of my head valuev comes as much worse.

I gave them as examples because they are/were legit champions, one should expect more at their level.

I agree, hugging in boxing is terrible, but at least the ref can stop it.
In MMA, there is still no agreement on stalling when it comes to grappling.

    Fair enough fella

But you shouldnt really expect a life long wrestler sometimes giving up a 20+ lbs over the guys he fought at HW to be knocking them out either. So he is utilising his natural abilities to avoiding getting Kodded also, guys like Liddel, Belfort and Rizzo will testify to this

The Greco Roman clinch is an art, granted not the most exciting, but an under appreciated skill set.

I think you have to remember that the risk/reward for heavyweights is far great - one good punch could cause a knockout in a way that is not true of the lighter weights. Therefore heavyweights cannot be as open as a featherweight or bantamweight...they'd just keep getting caught. So I would dispute the idea that heavyweights have less skill - its just a different type of skill.

Uh, "Jab-and-grab" is John Ruiz, not Lennox Lewis. Lewis finished tons of good fighters.

As much as Lay-n-pray sucks, Jab-and-grab is far worse. I've made this comparison many times, last time in reference to the Guida/Pettis fight.

To be honest lay and prey is not all the bad most of the time for me...

there are fighters though that take this to the extreme and will literally not do anything other than hold on to the other guy until the clock runs out :deal

It depends on who is doing it, John Ruiz career consisted of more grabbing than jabbing, I cannot thing of a fighter in MMA who was as bad with the LnP
