The new generation of boxing fans might not realize how big the upset was when Ali beat Foreman by way of K.O. Before that mega fight took place nobody thought that Ali could do it. I am not saying that Ali beat Foreman is the bigger upset than Douglas beat Tyson but I am saying that it was certainly one of the biggest upsets in the history of boxing.

I heard different. I thought during Ali's side show and acting crazy around Liston, that when his pulse was taken it was normal. I believe I heard that in an interview with Bert Sugar.

I never accepted that accelerated idea anyway because the heart can become accelerated for other reasons besides fear such as anticipation of an important event, anger, noise, strange surroundings, etc.

Fear is an extremely good motivator! It's a matter of how one deals with it that determines failure or success.

Everyone who steps into the ring has a certain amount of suppressed fear since it's natural to fear bodily harm and in boxing one can expect such harm will be inflicted. However, Ali just didn't come across to me as being primarily motivated by fear. Instead he seemed confident in his own abilities as compared to Liston's.

    BTW

Michael Spinks appeared fearful as he entered the ring against Tyson. Compare that to how Ali behaved as he entered the ring and during ref instructions to both fighters.

The only time that Ali showed real fear in Liston's presence and not just clowning around prior to the fight was when Liston pulled a gun full of blanks on him as reenacted in the film.
