Which other heavyweights in history could have taken the shots Ali took in the Shavers fight?

McCall and Rahman hit him flush with big power punches. Shavers never landed that clean on Ali.
And Shavers's punching power is the most overrated thing in history, he's not even top 5 in terms of punching power.

Look at the vid and see how Ali`s legs went and Holmes looked like someone shot him when that right hand landed.

It remains astonishing to me that Holmes not only got up after that, but resumed control in the next round. Shaves actually lunged into that shot, there wasn't an ounce of his weight that didn't go into that punch.

The fact that he did get up, where it's highly questionable that guys like Tyson, Lewis, etc. would have, makes his victory look all that much more awe-inspiring. He knocked the crap out of Earnie after that.

Yes huge puncher but not always a great finisher, he looked really sloppy trying to finish Holmes after he got up, iconic stuff.

I can't help but think if Earnie had tried to jab and shorten his punches way up, he might have become champ. Instead he went wide.

proof for one of the greatest chins of all time. Only guys like Archie Moore and Foreman (and a few others) have gotten up from such a devastating knockout to score a brutal knockout.

The jab is the most important punch in boxing or at least the lead hand is if you set your shots up by feinting or jabbing, prime Tyson measured opponents with the jab which is what seperates him from lesser fighters that punched hard among other things, maybe Cus could have helped Shavers a lot.

How would you know if a fighters power was overrated when the guys who actually fought him say he was the most powerful puncher they fought?

Cause he didn't manage to stop any big names, despite hitting them with big shots.
    Cause he was small

He didn't stop them because he wasn't half the fighter they were. Without that massive punch he would have had zero business being in the ring with them at all

You can punch harder than him I bet. And certainly you're quicker with better fundamentso more likely to land your shots.

I'm definitely quicker. I don't know if I can punch harder, we'd need a measuring device to know for sure how hard each HW can punch.
As I've already said, I've seen some amateurs that can probably punch much harder than most pros, yet they completely suck at boxing, thus they'd never make it as a pro, they'd get beat to a pulp
