Which other heavyweights in history could have taken the shots Ali took in the Shavers fight?

I think he might have been joking, @Brockton Rock

I was talking about one punch KO power and Tyson was a far better finisher than Shavers because of his offensive skill set but Shavers had more one punch power.

Bigger guys don`t always hit harder, Primo Carnera couldn`t punch like Shavers.

There is no way to prove for sure who packed more one punch power.

Primo Carnera was a big oaf. But if he had a similar technique and speed as Shavers, then he could hit harder.

    I agree.

Again, I agree with you, but I wasn't talking about who could apply his punching power more effectively. As some posters have said, Shavers took great risks in the sense that he put all his body weight behind a punch. ATG's rarely did that because of the risks involved, if you miss you leave yourself vulnerable to being countered and KO'd.
But my point was that if all the ATG punchers were to hit a static target, with all they can muster, then Shavers would not be among the top 5.

But then raw power that can't be applied in boxing match doesn't mean much. I'm sure you could find some streetfighters who can hit as hard as professional boxers, but that wouldn't make them better or more dangerous punchers.

Didn`t Shavers have more one punch KO`s? I know Tyson didn`t have many, his combo punching was lethal though.

I feel Primo`s size and build actually hindered his power.

It’s not so much about hitting harder itself but being able to hit a guys chin with their hardest punch.

Guys like Shavers had heavy hands. They hit hard all the time. But he was there to be hit too. When your rooted to the canvas like that and standing in the pocket to create that kind of leverage.. it can also reduce punch resistance...because it’s harder to ride a blow when a fighter is loading up.

Glad this was brought up. That's so true, when you're sitting into a punch for maximum leverage the grounding makes it so you're going to take a punch full force.

That is true, but I was only talking about punching power per se, not about being able to utilize that efficiently.

Shavers might have more, but they are mostly against smaller men and bums.
Tyson would have had just as many against the opposition Shavers faced.

    You are right, it doesn't.

That was what I was talking about, I've seen some amateurs who can hit with incredible force.

    You are right, it won't.
