He doesn't have a brain. That's his problem. He doesn't know how to use his talents and listen to what Steward has to say.
He was the same fighter, if not a little bit stronger and quicker. The same flaws that cost him this match were just as apparent in the hopkins/wright matches. He kept his left hand on his dick, and showed some stamina problems. He had a mediocre punch output, and didn't use his jab enough. When pressured, he backed up to the ropes instead of circling. His overall body movement was a bit excessive. The same things that gave him the win in the other matches were also still there. He is an athletic freak, and showed signs of effective counter punching. Although defensively flawed, he is quick enough to dodge and counter. He lost this match, and won the others, because Pavlik is more effective with his right hand than Winky or BHop.
Good thread MR Stayman. Taylor still makes amateurish mistakes. I though he would win by his pure athletic abilitiy. Pavlik does most things right, he gets hit alot but he has a good chin. and he has trouble hitting a moving target., but all those things will improve as he gets older. I would like to see a little more head movemnet from pavlik. And Taylor needs to go back to the old drawing board, get his stamina up and keep his hands up.
like i said in another thread, the only advantages Taylor had over Pavlik were hand speed and resume and neither proved enough to win this fight for him. Pavlik was too tall, had longer arms, more powerful, more heart it seems, younger, etc etc etc.
Taylor just has no defense, that's his main problem I think . Every time he's backed up or on the ropes, he looses. It seems his style is only built for offense and nothing more.
i say the same. having good confidence is just as important as those other aspects listed. it's also the hardest to improve on. just ask Roy Jones Jr.
yup I agree, he has the skill to beat Pavlik and should of won, hs boxing iq is very low and he will always suffer as a result of that.
I don't think Taylor was gassed. He was ahead by a couple of points on all three scorecards before he got KOed. His problem is that he stood in front of Pavlik the entire fight and didn't utilize his faster hand speed by picking his spots somewhat. He didn't have to stay in Pavlik the whole night which is exactly what Pavlik wants. He could've boxed more and touched him to win some rounds. That's what a superior boxer should do. I know that's a "*****" way of fighting to some but i call it smart fighting. Taylor has no brain.
His psyche and stamina may have waned a little but he put on a decent performance Saturday - he was ahead o the scorecards and almost finished the fight in the 2nd round. The problem was that he just got caught flush with a Pavlik haymaker that would have floored any middleweight.
And he got caught flush because he stood in front of him the whole fight. He should've boxed more and use his naturally quicker hands and pick his spots. He played right into Pavlik's power area all night. It was only a matter of time. I remember thinking to myself even in the 2nd round that Taylor was standing in front of Pavlik way too much and it was just a matter of time before he got caught with a good shot.
