The only thing about Mugabi is I think Marvin was losing his motivation and was flat. The significance of Mugabi is that Ray saw the weakness and then wanted to fight him. That is the only thing about Ray that I never liked about his second career post Kevin Howard. He would handpick and look for weaknesses. The good thing is that Ray admitted this.

Same. Mugabi was so tough, this man took some hellacious shots in round 6 and still stood. What a horrible defence.

Sibson, Hearns but the one that got me totally juiced up... Minter. he went o Engalnd to take on the defending champ, who stupidly made a racist comment about Hgager before the fight. Hagler absolutely ran right through Minter(who was no slouch) And with Minter stupidly waving him in !! Minters face looked like he went through a shredder when they stopped him ! What a night for MMH !!

Hearns showed what his motivation could do. He knew he could not beat him in a slow paced fight.. He got hit but that was all heart. Sibson was all speed and accuracy as well as Hamsho 1.

The first Mustafa Hamsho fight, a special performance from the Marvelous one. As most people know, Hamsho was a very powerful, tough, aggressive and talented contender, who had amassed a very good record by the time he first fought Hagler. And Hagler just systematically broke him down round by round, displaying his full range of boxing skills and offensive prowess throughout. It was almost painful to watch hamsho get his ass beat a clinical by Hagler, who never let him off the hook in the later rounds. I bet everyone involved was happy to see the ref step in and stop it.

It was the kind of performance that would have had the middleweight contenders of the day dreading to fight Marvin:yep

Without a doubt the Hearns fight.

I agree with the OP, Hagler is my favourite Middleweight and the Mugabi fight is his best performance, not from a technical standpoint that would go to Sibson who he completely schooled, but from the standpoint that it showed the difference between a good contender and a GREAT champion. Very few Middles at that point in their career could have overcome Mugabi who looked very good in the fight, not only because Hagler was slipping but because he was a legit good fighter.

Mugabi was more dangerous and did more damage than Hearns by far. The Mugabi fight showed what it took to be the Champ. I seriously doubt Hagler could've walked Mugabi down like he did to Hearns.

For sheer warrior like mentality - The Hearns fight.

For an exhibition of boxing skill - Against Tony Sibson.

Remember that Hagler was nearing the end..that wasn't prime Hagler who ko'ed Mugabi in '86.

Even better than the Hamsho fight....Lee, and the rematch w Obel following. After a slow start, Lee's savage left flush on the chin woke him up, then all hell broke loose.

And the hook used on Obel, the moment I saw it I knew would go down as a classic. Won KO Mag's KO of the year

only Marvin could improve on perfection
