Good shouts but although I'm constantly bigging up Buster's magnificent display that night,it sadly wasn't followed up by impressive performances.

I'm hoping we can get more where the initial surprise was followed up positively.

Among 3 of my favorite fighters, these guys proved their worth after these impressive wins:

    Mthalane vs. Miranda
    Donaire vs. Darchinyan
    Ioka vs. Sithsamerchai

I honestly think that night in Japan the planets and stars were aligned perfectly and no matter who was in the ring Douglas was going to win, lol. Definitely the biggest upset in boxing, ever.

It's the biggest upset but the brilliance of the performance seems to have been forgotten.
Everything Buster did had purpose and because younger fans saw Tyson fade it's hard to appreciate just how tactically perfect Buster was.

Your post is almost identical to one I wrote recently.

Brilliant performance definitely. And it is a shame he could never follow up on it. Makes that night all the more special....and strange.

With regards to the man in my avy, Cotto over Bailey then Quintana. Those body shots were superb and I've been a huge fan ever since.

Knew that would make it in. Our shared admiration for that performance is really cool.

I was tempted to mention it in the OP Jeff, but I just had a funny feeling about it and as I said, only the ease surprised me.

Arce Vasquez is a good shout! I thought Arce was pretty much finished but to come back from a knockdown in round 4 and to come from behind on the score cards and to TKO an unbeaton fighter in the 12th round for me is awesome! Plus recapturing a world title! Warrior!

That's a great shout, and I was a big fan of Arce, but something changed in him the night he pulled out of that fight early.
The writing was on the wall for me sadly, because he was a genuine warrior.

I was a big fan of Ruddock, and I never saw that coming in a million years.
But I became a fan of Lennox once I got over the hurt of Ruddock being finished,so that's another good example.

I was impressed By Khan over Maidanna and his string of wins since. Even his battling draw with Peterson.

Mainly cos i new he was a good boxer, but assumed he's get KO'd by big punchers. I thought he was great against Maidana, Judah and Peterson. As i assumed he couldnt hang with any big punchers.

Manny Pac from Diaz onwards. I never knew he could box like that.

I always thought you were a longtime fan of Pac John.

I'm pretty sure Barrera won many new fans after Hamed too, although hardcore fans were well aware of him.

No. I wasn't into the lower weights back then. I used to only watch from 135 upwards.

i used to just associate it with midgets bashing the crap out of each other with not enough power to score ko's

Which i regret massively now given the history that was there.
