The performance he put in against Kessler, or a complete domination of Hopkins with a stoppage in the 11th round?

VERY difficult to tell without having the full picture concerning Kessler but i'll choose the Hopkins performance as you describe it.

In America, the Hopkins win would go down better.

It also depends what Kessler goes on to achieve from here on in.

Both performances would be of note and very high standard.

I voted for the Kessler win because even if he beats the **** outta Popkins he won't get as much credit since Popkins is older than dust.

But people are arguing that Kessler is one dimensional and over-rated.

People who vote for "domination and stoppage of Hopkins": would you rank Calzaghe even higher p4p if he achieved that than you currently do? Logically, he must gain at least a couple of extra points for you...

Decebal - It depends if those people have Hopkins currently ranked 3rd-5th in their lists.

This is in America mates.....the performance against Kessler will not suffice against Hopkins.....no way....and before people get crotchity...Joe did great against Kessler, could've finished him but did'nt, Joe will need the killer Lacy performance at least

It's highly debatable whether the performance against Lacy was better than the performance vs Kessler. The quality of opponent should tell you that much.

i.e. A comfortable UD against a highly respectable rival champion vs a complete shut-out against an over-hyped yet dangerous belt holder.

No...because if, to them, domination + stoppage of Hopkins is worth more than performance against Kessler, even if Hopkins is worse p4p than Kessler was before the fight, if Calzaghe is 3rd or whatever now, p4p, he must climb or at least stay as high as he is now.

But, obviously, if Hopkins is somewhere outside the top 20, say, and Kessler was somewhere inside the top 10, say, his performance against Kessler could easily be more impressive than domination + stoppage of Hopkins.

Personally, I have no doubt that Kessler is the defining fight for Calzaghe's legacy, irrespective of what he does against Hopkins.

Nobody in there right mind can put Kessler in the top 10 of their p4p lists at this moment in time, and couldn't have before he fought Calzaghe.

Kessler is still very unproven. He's fought one top level boxer (Calzaghe) and came off very much second best. He has the talent and tools to learn, but until he fights (and beats) a top performer, I don't see how he can be ranked in the top 10 (ish).

It's not debatable at all mate....please don't kid yourself.....In all honesty after watching the Lacy fight I was surprised that Joe didnt unleash the same fury on Kessler....The performance was great but not on level with the Lacy domination

I do agree with the valid point you've made..Cheers

If two UD victories - I have to go with Kessler. But if Joe can stop the unstoppable Hopkins - 43 or not - it has to be considered as his biggest win because Hopkins is the biggest name of his career yet. Of course most experts saw Kessler as a bigger threat to Joe's undefeated record, but Kessler's yet to be a legend... Hopkins is one and he's on the top of the P4P list (#2-4).
