You gotta think....MAB is a very skilled and accurate puncher...always has been. PAC is very, very fast...deceptive speed and hard to guage....Casa landed occasionally on JMM but 29% connect percentage isn't what I would call good and I belive tht was Casa connect percentage vs JMM who lande in the lower 40% range.

JMM gets hit but not nearly as much as most fighters. JMM countering ability is so good b/c of his soild defensive prowess. Sure he gets hit but not as often as an Erik Morales, MAB, ect

countering is all about timing, reflexes, coordination, good speed and technical skills. ppl seem to always mistake the ability to counter w/ defensive skills, per se. but defense also includes slipping, parrying and blocking punches, head and side to side movement. jmm relies almost solely on his great ability to counter for his D. that's why his hands/arms are always ready to deliver counters rather than trying to block/parry punches as well as trying to slip them via head/lateral movement from time to time.

and jmm's not getting any younger either. his reflexes, timing, coordination and speed are slowly diminishing w/ age and going up in weight. that means his great counter-punching ability may not be as sharp as before when he was a younger 126-lb fighter. that could also be the reason why he gets hit more often now. jmm may have to acquire other defensive skills as he becomes increasingly older and moves further up in weight. but at this point, can you still teach an "old dog", new tricks?

There are definately challenges at lightweight for JMM, dominating is no guarentee, personally id like to see him fight Campbell so we can have an undisputed champ at the weight, I think thats a great fight against a legit world class lightweight, although Casa is a world class lightweight he has looked off the boil in some of his late fights.

Guzman is also a massive contender at lightweight, he has all the skills to be the no.1 at the division, a 50-50 fight imo.

I did hear Ricky Hatton being mentioned so dont be surprised if we see Hatton - JMM in the near future. Personally i think thats a bad idea for him but he seems to be chasing for another fight with Pac.

Personally Id prefer JMM - Pac 3 to either DLH - Pac or JMM vs anyone but that doesnt look like what were gonna get.

Oh I know whats going to happen after I say this! I think Erik "El Terrible" Morales could take him! He's had a nice break and there are those of us who think he can still scrap and has more than enough left to make JMM vs morales a very interesting fight. Remember folks this is just what I think. So that being said go ahead all you haters! come get some, lets dance!!!!!!!!!!! Moralitos is the Man!!!!:bbb

Countering is more of skill than a reflex...of course those natrual abilities like reflexes and speed help. But it helps with both "D" and "Offense". Having a good defense enhances a natrual counter punchers ability to find openings or create openings and also find their mark.

I think more people confuse a really good counter punchers craft with being extremely fast or having cat like reflexes when most of the time it has to do with HOW GOOD that particular boxer is. A prime example is James toney. He's not the fastest, the most powerful or one with the best reflexes.....He's just well versed in the sweet sceience and has an instinct for the game.

But I do agree that JMM will have to get better defensively as he gets older if he wants to prolong his already stellar career. I think he has the skills and ability to become more defensivley sound since the foundation is already there and pretty solid....and I'm sure JMM can learn some new tricks...his ability to adapt in the ring will transalate outside of it in training.

honestly, I don't think ANYBODY beats Marquez fair and square at this point in his career.

JMM-Campbell seems like the next OBVIOUS match.

@ 140 Pac would KO him. Whenever they fight, you always get the feeling that Pac could take him out at any moment. I really believe Pac was weight drained at 130 the last time they fought. A fresher Pac would finish the job.
