    False dilemma.

The way people value their own money isn't so restrictive.

For instance, the night of GGG-Lemieux, they will almost certainly be going up against post season baseball. I'm sure there are some people out there who would rather watch free post season baseball than Golovkin, especially if you're a baseball fan whose home team is still in contention.

There are a lot of variables at play here.

The ultimate decider here is the final tallies, which, as I mentioned earlier, hopefully suck for both parties.

This POV undermines the superstar status Floyd brings to the table, which is something that needs being considered when looking at the bigger picture.

OK, say they both took place on the same night not going up against anything but each other. Which would you get?

    Not really.

More people know who mayweather is, than golovkin and lem combined.

Hence mayweather starts off right out the gate with a much higher projection due to relevance and popularity. Theres people that buy mayweather fights that have never heard the name golovkin before and has no bearing on the comparison of the two ppvs in terms of one being chosen for its greater value

You cant make ppv buys an indicator of better value when comparing two completely different sized markets.

To make what you are saying a realistic indicator youd need a control group who knows both guys and then make their choice.

    Irrelevant.

Floyd has built his brand over many years. However it happened, it happened. He has name value. He's coming off the so-called new fight of the century. The end result is his star status has brings a mass appeal and familiarity. Golovkin lacks such big name recognition.

This affects value in the proper context.

That's why Floyd-Berto will almost certainly do better (and perhaps considerably better) than GGG-Lemieux.

Well said. And the poll in this says in all. The 4 people who voted for Mayweather v Berto is a suprise to no one either.

Mass appeal is totally irrelevant to the value of my dollar. I don't care if Lil Wayne is throwing a free concert at my next door neighbor's back yard, I would rather pay the cover charge to go watch a local blues band.

But star power plays a role in how people value their own money.

Part of the reason more people are willing to invest time and money into Floyd is because he is well known.

So if we're talking "better value for money" - more people will probably be willing to part with their money to watch Floyd, and part of the reason for that is because he is better known.
