Met Roger Mayweather today. He was absolutley of his nut on drugs in a shoe store. He asked me where the best fighters are from and I said "The mid west" and then he spent half an hour talking to me about mid west fighters. Made shoe shopping with my wife worth while. Told me Buster Douglas beating Tyson wasn't lucky and Lennox Lewis was the best British fighter.
Junior Witter at a Doncaster match about 6 years ago. I just said hello, got his autograph on the programme and stuff. He seemed like a nice guy.
I met Ken Buchanan at a Calzaghe fight in Edinburgh. Nice guy, but he was pissed and spraffing alot of **** about not being Ken, but infact his twin brother. It was a really strange conversation. Ken did have a younger brother who boxed pro. Alan Buchanan 17. 4. 2. Ex British and commonwealth flyweight champ Keith Knox worked in a butcher shop just up the road from me. I think it was before he turned pro tho. Late 80's.
Met Groves at Hamburg airport in the way out to the Hate fight, he was proper sound had a chat and a photo. He was a lot bigger than I thought he would be. Makes you think about the hard work it must be to make weight.
Woodhall, Duran, Fury, Broadhurst, Gavin, Peter Buckley, Ryan Rhodes, Kevin Mitchell, Arv Mitoo, Howard Clarke, Bunny Johnson,Jamie Moore, Max Maxwell, got KOd in a street fight by Pele Reid.
I met willie limond in a boozer in Glasgow a couple of months ago haha. Was talking about his fight with Khan. Was a good laugh
Prince Rodney,Paddy Folan and Chris Emmanule. All were sound,Paddy Folan was having a beer after he had just won a fight. Chris Emmanule was sat next to us while we watched Paddy fight as he was fighting Paddy a few weeks later.
I also met Curtis Woodhouse before he started boxing back when he played for Sheff Utd in 1998. I was a mascot for my 10th Birthday and got to meet the team
Gary Mason I knew very well, he was as nice as everyone says. Johnny Armour and Michael Wright were club mates. Conteh chatted to me after one of my bouts, he was really friendly and spent a bit of time. Horace Notice, he was quite shy it seemed. Steve Collins and Dave Haye at work, Collins is very talkative. Dave was friendly. I have not met any that were arseholes. armour was a violent drunk, I rarely drank with him.
I went to college with Terry Marsh (A-level Mathis) he was a mature student. We spoke quite a bit but I don't think I ever mentioned boxing. He was very focused and dedicated to his work. I spoke briefly to Bradley Skeete at the FW show in December. I lived in Australia for a few years and was good mates with Soloman Hamanou's cousin. so met Sol on many occasions (both at boxing events and socially). Sol is very humble, real gentle giant. Very religious and done a lot for the Tongan youth and his church. Met DavenBoy Green in the Boyleyn pub before Mitchell v Katsidis at Upton Park (i didnt know who he was but my old man was with me and did) I was in a karaoke bar in Vegas and Roy Jones Jnr was on the table in front of us (but never spoke to him so didn't technically meet him) I think that's all?
