So, we've gone from Bones to Mr. Wonderful to the Dragon to now (finally, I think) the Huntington Beach Bad Boy. Whew. Rank your order of preference for who you'd have liked to see step in as Sugar's opponent at UFC 133. If you aren't happy with the ultimate selection of Ortiz, rank the other three in your order or preference.
In order, I'm happiest with the Ortiz rematch (as a Tito fan from back in the early days, glad to see him having a resurgence - and because they have unfinished business from the draw...) and next would have preferred Jones, the best light heavyweight going...then the rematch with Machida, who beat him pretty decisively...and lastly Davis, because who the hell is he?
I feel like Machida would steamroll right through Rashad like he did the first time and also that, #1 contender or not, Machida and Jones are too strong of opponents to face after a 14 month layoff. I think Phil Davis has the potential to be, stylistically, the most boring fight of all time. Tito has everything to gain from taking this fight. I remember being a fan of his back in the day. Maybe he seriously is injury free for the first time in a long time, though, I feel like we would have heard a back injury excuse if he would have lost to Ryan Bader. I picked Ortiz, but I honestly don't think Ortiz stands a chance. He landed a great punch against Bader and was able to quickly capitalize with a choke, but it seems like Tito gasses in every fight nowadays. Tito is a good fight because he gives Rashad the option to avenge his draw and he just came off a big win.
Jones, Machida, Davis because I enjoy seeing Evans' Fragile Glass Jaw get shattered and that's in order of who would be most likely to do it.
I'm happy wiht Ortiz. This rematch should have happened years ago. Glad it is happening now. Ortiz was only 10 days removed from fight shape and he had about 3 weeks or so to regain that form. I'm fully on the Ortiz hype train and 100% hope he wins emphatically tomorrow en route to a Jones title shot where the stars align and he finds a way to win. It's a LOOOOOOOONG shot but the hypes worth it.
