Duran quit in the middle of a fight where he was trailing and unlikely to win.

We don't know why to this day.

Fear, Frustration, Anger, Stomach cramps, He needed to take a **** (laxatives to make weight), lack of heart, etc., have all been offered as excuses.

Vitali won virtually every round against Byrd and had the fight in the bag.

But he injured his shoulder and needed major surgery to repair it.

While he could have 'jabbed his way to a W' he might never have boxed again or at least not at the same level.

Pain, lack of heart, prudence ?

Which one was least justified in quitting ?

Which had less reason to quit ?

In other words, whose 'quittage' was worse ?

    Vote and/or comment.

    Duran...

I love Duran but there's a difference between quitting from an injury and just flat out quitting out of frustration which was what duran did...

Pointless discussion, as we don't know how much pain Vitali was in, therefore we cannot make a judgement on it. And why isn't Israel Vasquez included here? Another "quitter".

Exactly. Most people with common sense dont think Vitali is a quitter. Even most haters dont. They might say stuff to stir the pot, but Vitali stopping is not even close to what Duran did:-(

That hasn't stopped everyone and his dog from offering an opinion over the years.

I'm only interested in the forum's view on these two at this point.

Duran had so much hate for Leonard that he just didn't give a **** at that moment...
he had no idea people would still be talking about it, & it hurting his status as an ATG.

    Bottomline...
Roberto didn't want to give Leonard the satisfaction of hearing the scores and getting the legit win he deserved that night, That whole excuse Duran gave about him not being 100% cramp's or whatever he said was simply an after thought.

Klit was injured, why should a fighter continue when he/she can perform 100%.
He took the L and has since lived to recover from that.

il never accept that, read all the books about duran. problem was duran at

this time in his life fell in love with his own legend, was generally nuts and

surrounded by the wrong people, didnt train properly lost too much weight

and got made to look like a **** by leonard. he never thought it was a big

a deal and thought that as he had given leonard a rematch that hed get

one too. he had too much pride to be made to look like a clown and i think

all his other accomplishments cancel out this act of complete idiocy,

contempt for the sport and lack of any sense of professionalism

In each case the fighter retired before the end of the fight ?

    The poll question is simple.

In your opinion, and based on what you know, which 'quittage' was worse ?

Perhaps I should have included a third option: DON'T KNOW

But if you fit that bill, just don't vote.
