Spare me that bull****. Vitlays own fans have admitted he got that injury as early as the 2nd round. How come it only troubled him when Byrd did his **** poor Tyson impression in the 9th?

The answer is that VITLAY has the heart of a mouse. Comparing VITLAY to Duran is ****ing embarrassing.

    Barbie, wake up son.

We're talking about the Vitali Klitschko-Chris Byrd fight, not the Lennox Lewis fight.

Hey, if it rhymes, it's gotta be true!
If it's also a baseball reference, then it's passed by Congress in record time. :patriot

The quit that stands out most for me is Golata v. Tyson. It was a "I'm taking my toys and going home" kind of moment. :|

I never compared Vitali to Duran in terms of greatness. I responded to the thread topic about which fighter had the more legitmate excuse to quit. I have Duran in the top ten fighters of all time and Vitali, even though I am a fan, couldn't light a candle to Roberto talent-wise. With a better work ethic he could have been the best of them all. The first Duran-Leonard fight was the best fight I ever saw and I have rewatched many times. All my friends said a wipe out for the gifted, charismatic Leonard. Suffice to say, I made a lot of money betting for my man Duran. A whole lot of money.

Klit was seriously hurt, when you're hurt, you're hurt. I think it takes guts to pull yourself when you know it is time rather than to fight on and ruin your career.

The reason I say guts are becuase of threads like this and 14 people voting for Klit being the worst of the two.

Duran is a total mystery obviously, especially from a fighter like him. That said I think most people look past that and recognize how great he was.

dude, a torn should hurts like hell by itself. getting it hit by punches, however light they may me, hurts even more. i think duran is worse. even if he lost, vitali proved he was better than byrd. duran proved nothing

i'm a big duran fan, but i'd admit his quittage was worse. he was'nt even injured.

on the other hand, vitaly at least had a serious injury. which can be a excused some what.

Duran punked himself by losing focus. I have just as much pride as the next guy, but I would not quit a fight midway through just because the guy was clowning; makes victory that much sweeter... Needless to say, Leonard punked the fans by not giving Duran the rematch right away.

Anyone objective person will realize that quitting with a potential career-ending injury (see how much was left of Lacy) is much better than quitting just because you're frustrated, end of story.

Duran is a legend and that can't be denied, but his quittage is one of the worst i've ever seen, for a fighter in his prime. Tyson did something similar against McBride, but that was when he was 37 years old and no longer had it in him. Same with Chavez vs DLH.

    How about Brewster's detached retina?

And how do you know his eye wasn't ****ed up again? He ate like 20-30 hard jabs a round. And what would those "few more rounds" that he had in him have done? Klitschko was fighting a measured pace and doing whatever he wanted, all those extra rounds would've resulted in was a beating. Same for the Peter fight. If you're competitive, okay, go on, but neither of them landed a significant punch during the entire fight.

at last some sense on the subject.

this obsession with "quitters" is so lame.

Duran's quitting has only added to the mystique of the man, and is one of the legendary moments in the sport. He fought well beyond a sensible age and fought a lot more fights than many fighters manage in their careers so he is hardly a quitter. Whatever went on that day whether pyschlogical or physical he earned the right to as far as i'm concerned. was it a proper way to act? of course not. do i feel i have the right to condemn him for it? nope. and i've seen much more heartless performances from fighters who've gone the distance.

Vitali took an educated decision that fighting on could have turned a bad injury into something career ending.

I suppose some people would have liked Cotto to fight on until he was completely ****ed up, even though he had fought and been beaten to a stand still already....

Id say Duran wins this distinction hands down.He had no injury whatsoever. He just quit. He just walked off saying "**** you, i aint here to play games no more". SRL played the boxer in "a boxer against a fighter" scenario that infamous night, and Duran had no answer to the style SRL adopted that night.

Klit on the other hand....well theres tough and theres stupid....If he got that injury in the 2nd round then YES he was tough AND stupid at the same time. Just kidding :D. He gave it a damn good try and came up short, but thats one hell of a lot to expect from any fighter dont you think?

This may sound strange:huh....but i wouldnt never label Duran a "quitter" as such, even after what happened. I enjoyed his fights so much for years after that. :yep
